Which numbers are needed to figure out which axle I have?

I looked around on my front axle for any type of casting numbers I can find. Only thing I saw were on the front of the axle around the pumpkin [front Dana 60] says "44980" on the left side & "60 F" on the right. Anyone know if this casting has 30 spline axles or 32 spline?

Does it have the tag on the bolts on the coverplate? That should have the model number, and you should be able to contact someone like Randys ring and pinion to get the info.

What brakes does the axle have? How are the ball joints mounted?

The BOM should be stamped in the tube near the cast pumpkin. IIRC they are on the long tube.

Thats what I'm hearing, but I need to be sure. You know how to determine which I have from the casting numbers?

I don't think the casting numbers would do it. There should be a tag on the diff that has the build information on it. Reider racing can tell the info from that.

Reider Racing???? There is no tag on my diff.

If the price is right you should be able to unload it again if it doesn't work.

I am unaware of how to determine what you have, if you know noone has been in it to swap it out, then you should have the 30spline.

I'm 100% sure it is factory. I might just pull a axle out & start counting. LOL Thanks

I've mentioned it before, but I *BELIEVE* that the spline count changed at the same time as the brakes and knuckles. The best information I have indicates that this happened in '99. Hence the reason I asked what brakes and knuckles it has on it.

Worst case, just pull a shaft and put a caliper on it. No need to count splines if you know shaft diameters.

I think it was 2000 model year when the 32spline came out, but I agree that the knuckes and brakes should indicate it also.

If I post pics, would you guys be able to tell? All I know is that I have to pull my wheel bearings to get the rotors off. My rotor installs from the back of the hub. That tells me that it is the old style correct?

Sounds like the old style, single piston caliper brakes to me. Ball joints should go into the knuckle.

Should be a 30 spline axle.
