so i pulled my head today because it has been lifting up when i drive it hard, exhaust would mix with the coolant and too much pressure would build up in the radiator and it would blow water out of the radiator cap

im running a afe air filter straight off the turbo (no box) i know it was sucking in coolant and pumping it into the motor with the boost, the tops of all my pistons have this white/yellow sulfur sorta colored build up in and around the bowls, all the build up patterns are generally the same and pretty evenly shaped, im thinking this is caused by the burning coolant but im looking for some second opinions or confirmations on what i think it is, i took some pics but i need to figure out how to post them up

oh and the build up is also on the head matching the pistons

If it was burning freeze then I would think that the tops of then would be clean. My thinking is it would turn to steam and kinda steam clean the cylinder but never had it happen on a diesel

Piers put an 0-ringed head on my truck back in 03 and found the same thing on my engine. He was curious to the odd coloring of my pistons when the head was pulled. I was using a heavy dose of fuel additive at the time. :Cheer:

i run a ton of used motor oil and atf in my diesel, but last time i pulled the head it didnt have that coloring

I wasn't talking about alternative fuel, I was talking about fuel conditioner. Amsoil fuel conditioner to be specific.

i knew what you where talking about, i was just pointing out that i have been running used oil

Depending on the oil that you were running as to wat additives were in the oil, that could very easily have left some weird colored deposits on the tops of your pistons!
