Ok so I'm pullin my Cp3 to have it rebuilt and upgraded to a 120% pump by Todd and TC Diesel.
Anyways I got everything disconnected and I'm on the last step of using the gear puller to back the cp3 off. Hears my problem and I'm hopin its not gonna be too crazy.
Got the gear puller bolted on with M8x1.25 bolts and started to tighten the main threaded bolt. It got real tight but I kept on turing it down and "POP" the piece that holds the gear puller with the two holes broke lose from whatever it attches to. The cp3 also didn't back off the gear at all either.
What broke? I can slide the gear puller and that piece back and forth inside the timing housing.
My buddy who works on these trucks and has a 04 CR said he thinks the person that I had install the cp3 when I got it put loc tite on the gear inside there. He said there shouldn't be anyway that it broke lose like that.
If the installer did use loc tite should he be responsible for the damages and my friend said there was no reason to use it. He is gonna help me take the front end and timing cover off this weekend to actually see what happened.
What do you'll think?
Sorry the post is so long.

I have never pulled a CP3, but all of the 12v gears that I have done did the same thing, then they backed off easily. It will scare you the first time that is for sure.

At times you may need to tap the puller to release the gear..No need to worry We will fix every thing right up.. I have plenty of gears..It should have not come off that hard..Are you sure you had it attached correctly... yes no need to use any type of adhesives. Please call Me.

Did you remove the shaft nut?

(someone has to ask...)

There are bolts holding the CP3 on 3 bolts. There is a o-ring that seals for oil and it may be stuck. There is a nut holding the gear on. I hope you didn't try and pull the gear without removing it! If you did front cover has to come off! If you just broke the gear free from the CP3 then get a pry bar and wiggle the CP3 from the back.

Yeah I removed the nut and lock washer. Threads aren't stripped on the gear. I removed the puller and then bolted it back on so I'm good there. Didn't have time today to make it to my dads shop but I'm gonna head over tomorrow moring.
Todd Ill call u tomorrow when I find out what's goin on or if I run into problems

Secret: Tighten the puller pretty tight and tap it with a hammer. Hope it works out for you!

Ok update CP3 is off and gear isn't broke. Sent the pump out today to Todd at TC!

Todd is awesome good choice!

That is what I have heard and from talking to him a couple times on the phone there was no doubt that's who I was gonna have build my pump. Can't wait for him to get it so all the fun can begin. I really can't wait to get it on the truck and see what kind of difference it makes over my 33% pump. Ill be happy that I can run my smarty to full potential with my new pump and not have any drop in rail pressure.
How big can I go with the injectors and the 120% pump?

I'm running the II 120% with 150% over injectors. Have no idea what hp rating that is. But the pump keeps up fine. 25,000 psi all the way down the track.

Nice! Yeah I have no idea what hp rating those would be either but I'm sure it has to be bigger than 250s. I know I saw some one who was running 300s with a 120%. I really don't think ill go bigger than 250s though. How will the 64/S480 set-up like the 250s? Will 150s be enough to that set-up quick enough until I get some 250s?

:hehe::hehe: I was waiting for that.!

A little late on that aren't ya. Already said I took it off and that the pump was off the truck and sent to Todd last Friday.
Actually talked to Todd tonight, said he would tear it apart tomorrow and probably have it rebuilt and modded and in the mail by Thursday. Now how's that for service! I can't wait to get it back!
