Long story shor the truck won't go into first gear unless i engage it manualy on the column.

Any Ideas guys? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Brian

Hm...alright....i had to drop entire tranny almost this exact same time last summer...i was hoping it wasn't that bad again. I don't enderstand why it even happened. It was all of the sudden...

do you have a voltage regulator or noise filter installed? I've had problems with corrosion in the orange wire where my voltage regulator ties in and it causes eratical voltage which caused 2nd gear starts. Its probably the transducer, not the govener pressure silenoid. There like $45 and take about 5 min. to change once you drop the pan.

Thanks Lavon. I don't have those parts i don't think...idk. Its odd...first off since last summer when i had the tranny out i have had a problem with it not coming out of first gear until around 1700 rpm after it is started...then its fine...and then this happens. Last summer when i got tranny back in and had that problem i took it somewhere to have it read and they didn't know why it was doing that...figured that once i changed my ABS sensor it would be fine...but nope

The solenoid goes bad just as often as the sensor. It has a valve inside that gets stuck and/or the screen will get clogged with clutch material. For what the parts will cost, I would replace them both.

Yes, but usually the govener pressure solenoid fails because the fine screen gets clogged with crap, so I usually just pry the hole screen off and brake clean it and it works again.

If the govener pressure solenoid is the problem, then usually it hangs in second gear, but if the transducer is bad it hangs in first. Not always, but usually

it isn't hanging in gear, it shifts fine through the gears. BUT it won't down shift into first at a stop, nor start in first when you put it front Rev or neutral to drive.

High pressures off idle in the tranny can cause 2nd gear starts. get under the truck and make sure the lever that is connected to the throttle on the tranny which controls pressure within the tranny is fully disengaging when no throttle is being given. I had a problem with second gear starts and this was the problem in my 01. Also try to refrain from driving if you can cause alot of second gear starts will ruin the tranny in no time.

Yeah I understand, sounds like a transducer or a voltage issue. Do this, take a voltage reader and go to the fuse box under the hood. Remove the 5 pin transmission relay (the one you remove for a lockup switch) With the truck off, turn the key to the start position and check to see if the voltage coming into that relay reads the same as the battery voltage. I had a solder break under that relay causing a 2nd gear start condition and when that happened I had no voltage going to the regulator.

Ill check that. Thanks lavon.

Ill update you guys too...today truck has been fine...still doing the same thing as before (hanging in first right after truck is started) but downshifting fine to first every time....Now i am really confused
