97 6.5, what kinda boost #'s?

i have a 97 3500 with the 6.5. i have a boost gauge on it and today i noticed i was only gettin 12.5lbs at best. Is that far off from wat it should be? i heard that they should be putting out arpound 18? i have no leaks that i no of and it is a new turbo. any ideas?
 
12.5psi is right on for a 6.5 chevy. I think they dont like much over 15psi, so you are right where you need to be.
 
i was getting 20-25 out of my 6.5 but i had some mods done and i didnt care about it cuz i had a cummins setting waiting to go in it but i never did hurt it
 
Don't go over 15psi unless you like to replace expensive parts.....When I had still had the 6.5 in my K2500 I had a manual wastegate set at 10psi at WOT with spikes to 12-13.... These engines aren't high boost applications and can't make extreme power and you will pay for it when you try to push it too far.
