Budget 6.70 drag truck build!!

I was thinking the same thing, me being 6 ft tall. I like how you did the upper part with no problems getting to the joints to weld. So, are you saying most of the Rhodes cages are not that low overhead? Does that attach with plates to the floor, or through the cab to the frame?

It does come with plates. But from the way I took the rules the plates would still need to have a bar down to the frame. So I just got some outriggers from summit and just ran the bars through the floor. Most of them are usally 4-5in taller. The way it was packaged the plates were separate from the rest so I thought it didn’t include them until after I had everything tacked in. I could of redone it and used the plates but it was legal the way it was so I left it.

Get a Kirky aluminum seat for it. You can mount those low, plenty of head room.

I plan to get one within the next few months. Trying to get it moving under its own power. Trying to get piece by piece daily

Got some more done on the truck this weekend. The 4 link setup is just temporary. Have to add some more adjustment holes but the truck is back as a roller and not far from driving under its own power. Right now the bars are way to parallel I plan to move the top bars down about 2 inches in the front but for now it’s back as a roller.

There will be gussets added to the square tubing as well as the frame will be boxed in Just for extra strength. A extra 15-20 pounds can’t hurt me to bad that far back

Looks awesome! What coilovers are those?

Cheap eBay lmao. The springs are changeable and qa1 makes springs that can fit them. That’s what I’m gonna do until I get some dual adjustables. Just had these. There for a rat rod type deal I’m pretty sure lmao

Haha right on man! I like to see you are making things work with what you have. I’ve got the QA1 coilovers and trying to see what people set theres at for a base setup haha.

Yes there has been some progress. Found out the coils i had planned on using were not going to work. So i got a set of the dual adjustable's from jegs. based off estimated weight and spring angle and travel i was wanting to have im going to start out with a 200lb coil and go from there. In the meantime I got all the trans lines ran and cooler mounted. Also i decided to ditch the drums for some lighter disc setup. That has been the last weeks job, got all the brakes working and new lines ran. Truck is pretty much ready to go for a test drive soon. Just top off fluids check over everything and i should be set! Will upload some more pics tomorrow.

I love this upgrade, I want to do it to mine. Great stuff.

It’s a cheaper kit actually but seems to be nice and they were local to me. Right around 340$ total. It utilizes stuff off a older 1 ton Chevy that’s widely available so I figured it had to be bettter then the drums and I honestly hate dealing with drums so it was a easy choice for me!

Do you have the rear diff rolled forward slightly? Just looking at the last picture and the frame to perch doesn't appear parallel (could be the angle the picture was taken) or is it suppose to be?

It’s from where it’s free hanging with no tension on it and the 4 link bars were not set in place. It’s set now to where there’s 0* pinion angle the rear is actually about 2-3inches higher then the output of the trans where the trucj is going to be sitting so low. I had to put a 4in notch in the frame to be able to clear full travel. Which from my understanding I only want about 2inches of squat when launching. Just what I’ve read anyways.
