What is the difference (for high-performance applications) between the rigid & flexible intermediate bands? Obviously the price of the hi-po rigids are 4x as much as the flexible ones.

Ive wondered the same thing. I wonder if the rigid one applies a more equal pressure around the drum. IDK im just thinking out loud

I personally bought the flexible one. I guess I'll see if it holds up.

It's easier to smoke the rigid bands...

feel free to elaborate/tell a story!

I'm looking at this band selection thing from the POV of a street & drag truck application, moderate-to-higher HP
The rigid burns more easily because there's less total surface area applied. Or at least that's my guess. We went back to the flex bands exclusively.

Are you suggesting that when it is clamped the rigid band does not wrap 'circularly' around the drum, causing certain spots to wear more quickly?

forgive my ignorance.

I would love to spend $40 for the flex band versus $160 for the hot-shiit rigid.

Yes, the wear pattern is terrible on the rigid.

I've run both of these with good results:
727 2nd Gear Band Red Racing Flex - A&A Transmissions

727 2nd Gear Band Kevlar Flex - A&A Transmissions

This one only scuffed the center 1.25".
727 New Wider 2nd Gear Band Red Racing Smooth - A&A Transmissions

^Right on.

Is a filter extension necessary when installing a deep pan?

I've read that the extension is what allows the pump to pull cooler fluid from the bottom of the pan. No point in having all that extra fluid if you're still going to be circulating the hot stuff, or something like that.

Going from a cheap Ebay pan that held one extra quart to a MagHytec DD dropped my freeway cruising temps by 30-35 degrees.

I know the front planet must be a steel one in high performance apps (or even in stock if you want some reliability), but what about the rear planet? Is an aluminum rear planet going to hold up in high power applications?

A six pinion aluminum planet can take alot abuse, They sell a powdered steel one but you will need to make sure its a 15 degree one for it to fit.
As far a bands go I have had good luck with the Brass Impregnated Carbon Fiber Flex Band.

i just finished reworking my 47RE, here is the list of parts I used.

Master Kit with high energy int. and forward clutches
Kevlar rigid kickdown band
6 pinion aluminum rear planet
DTT flexplate
DTT triple T/C
DTT billet band lever
DTT billet band anchor
Sonnax billet input shaft
Sonnax reverse servo piston and plug
Sonnax piston retainer
Sonnax billet accumulator kit
Sonnax super hold servo kit
Sonnax pressure reg valve
Sonnax HD band strut
Transgo S/K
Borg Warner 50185 governor sol
OEM gov sensor
low roller clutch (sprag)
O/D spring

If you don't mind me asking, what was the total on those parts?

Don't know exactly but I know I have over 3K in it. I get a break on parts since I run a trans shop but I am still in it pretty good. I just installed it today so I haven't even given it a test run yet but it will happen tomorrow.

I just scored a full manual reverse valve body built by Joe Webb tonight. Now to see if I can buy a new gate plate for my shifter.
