6.0 Wont start no codes

There are literally hundreds of threads on OEM (03 and 04 6.0L) high pressure oil pumps (HPOPs) that failed. Some have been right out of the box from the dealership. Those are sure hard to diagnose, but it happens more often than Ford would care to admit!! There is no question that aftermarket has improved the design. The 05 and up pumps are extremely reliable however.

Also - dummy plugs on the wavy oil rail have frequently leaked bad enough to cause a no start. Ford WSM identifies it as an issue and a TSB recommends the updated dummy plugs. If it already has been equipped with the updated dummy plugs, then leaks are pretty uncommon.

How is the low pressure oil pressure while cranking?

Late 04's have the wavy oil rail, not the log style. They therefore have dummy plugs (which is a common place for a leak).

I Already installed updated ones along with updated standpipes

How is the low pressure oil pressure while cranking?

just for kicks, pull the oil filter and inspect the stand pipe in the housing. if it cracked or melted, you will get some low oil pressure but not enough to keep the high pressure pump fed.

I still hear air with the valve covers off so I'm not sure whats leaking still maybe the injectors are leaking?

It sounds like its down lower where the air comes from hard to explain maybe i'll try and load a video see if it can pick it up.

I cranked it with the oil filter cap off and it filled it back up in bout 3-4 seconds. is it normal for it to drain empty after cranking? I don't remember them doing that lol

If there is no filter holding the drain closed, yes they will empty themselves. If you have the drain held shut, it shouldn't drain back.

The cap pushes the filter down and closes a drain valve at the bottom of the filter housing. It should always drain with the cap off.

perfect thanks I need to rig up a way to shut the ipr so I can actually do the test right smh:nail:

All you need to rig up the ipr is an old pigtail. One side goes to 12v and other ground, however don't leave it this way long you can burn up the ipr (never have personally but Ford mentions this in the manual.)

Yeah I couldn't find a ipr pigtail ordered the tool then experimented and the plug for the vane solenoid on a duramax is the exact same had a harness I cut that pigtail off and boom made my own lol.

So I can hear some air from the oil filter housing with the ipr forced shut and bubbling noise? Hpop done?

I still hear minor air noise around the rails gets way quieter when you force the ipr shut

Red wire switched power Pin A, B+; Yellow/red switched ground Pin B, B- (ground).

Without a scan tool to take active command of IPR duty to 100%, you can do it by having the key in the RUN position, and jumping to ground pin #2 of C1381c (the middle of the three PCM connectors between the driver side battery and the inner driver side fender well which requires the battery cover removed to access unless it's MIA) which will be a yellow wire with red stripe. This is the ground side wire to the IPR. On the IPR connector, Pin 1 is VPower (switched power) and Pin 2 is the ground from the PCM connector.

Yeah the little harness I made works like a champ lol

You don't seem to hear the noise(from the oil filter area) till I force the ipr shut does that make sense

K well pump is out.

For kicks I cranked the truck with the cover off lol i stood way back but it barely trickled out the pump with about 5-6 seconds of cranking lol I read they build 3000psi pretty much instantly so I figured if the pump was good we'd get a good stream but **** just trickled out.

Now to order a new pump. Also not sure how much end play the pump should have bit I can pull the gear in and put pretty easy

Pay the mechanic. Internet shop time is still shop time. Fix it and SELL IT!!!!!!!!!

There should be 1 6.0 displayed in a museum somewhere with a thing we got wrong plaque tomread in front of it. All others should be ground up and sold to china for a very reasonable price. Nothing 6.0 was a step in the right direction. Other than they payed my morgage for a few years. So thank you ford.
