60mm S300’s

How come no one uses the 60mm inducer S300’s? Like the 177272 or 177280 with a .7 or .8 housing swap, I would think they would make a good single turbo even for towing or a good top turbo in a smaller set of twins?

I had one on a 12v with a lower stall, it was hard to run the truck down the interstate without running lots of boost and sucking fuel. They spool fast and run out of steam quick.. you can definitely tow with it though.

I've got a pair of them, two different turbine housings though, so I haven't tried anything except putting one in a compound setup. I have two gates on the manifold to try to help it live.

How do they compare to the HE351CW? What's the standard cost of them?

They seem to run about 550-750 depending on where you get one and come with T4 turbine housings, so if you want to go to a wastegate T3 housing you’ll have to add on another 450-550 depending on where you buy it.

95cummins what exhaust housing did you run on yours?
I’m just torn on whether to try one of these 360’s with either a .7 or .8 housing on my farm truck or make a new set of twins like the BD set for my 400-450 horse

I believe the 360 is 65lbmin and the newer s357 is 67

Pressure ratio capability is often more important, especially in a compression ignition engine. There is also a non wastegated T3 AGP housing for the 68/76mm turbine that is reasonably priced.

How do their pressure ratio capabilities compare? Would the 65 turbine be a better match than the 68?

I run one on (S360ET/65/.8 W/G) on a VP 24V. Edge EZ, 155hp injectors in a Freightliner FL80. Runs really well, spools nice, tows great. We gross around 60K lbs with it, no problems at all.

Really that sounds pretty promising, how does the gearing compare in that rig to a truck? That seems like it would be a 350-400rwhp combo in a pickup if I had to guess, what do you think?

Same combo in a 02 24V gave me 430 at the wheels, so I figured around 400 or so. She runs 2000RPM at 60MPH, about like 4.10's in a pickup.

It's a really nice setup, will barely touch 1250*

I'm curious about these sized turbos for VE powered trucks. It seems like it would fill the gap between a HE351cw and it's 9cm housing and a S362 sxe.

Also who is building/selling S360's? Engineered Diesel or North American Turbo? I just don't see them advertised much. I'm assuming the standard S360 has the 65mm wheel and the "SXE" version has the 68mm?

I saw a S360 variant for sale the other day. He claimed it was a 60/68/.70 Had a wasteaged housing and SXE style 3rd gen cover from Smeding Diesel. I had never heard of them, but the cover has their name cast into it. I have seen a similar turbo on Hungry Diesel's website listed for $1400.

Off topic, but who has had turbine/compressor wheel assemblies balanced?
Trying to find someone who'll do it and give me a price on doing around 5 HE351cw units.

Mark.

The ones I’ve seen had the 68mm turbine wheel, and I haven’t seen any sold with the wastegated T3 housings on them that is usually used on these pickups. Several places sell the T3 wastegated housing for the 68mm wheel separate though, Power Driven and Crazy Carl’s I know do for sure.

I was borderline set on putting a 60/68/.7 together for my pickup to use but I ended up getting an S357/65/.7 through some trading a couple weeks ago so I may try it as a single or put a primary under it for some small twins.

Mark I’ve always had it done just at a local turbo rebuilder. The last one I had done they cleaned and blasted the rotating assembly and balanced it for $100.

I have a run of the mill 62/65 on my 89 and I like it. It was good enough to make 487rwhp too.

I think that 57/65/12 would be a good little turbo.

Here is a place that sells a 61/65/12 variant: Borg Warner / AGP S300 SXE Wastegated 2nd Gen Cummins - AGP Turbo

If you step up to 62mm the cost goes down and the turbine goes to 68mm.

Do you remember the housing size? I'm assuming run of the mill would be 14cm. I had one shop recommend a 62sxe cold side with a 65mm turbine. Said to run the 12cm if your empty or small atv trailer, 14cm for camper or 16ft utility. This is for the VE Excursion.

I asked about a 60mm option and he said "we can sell a 61mm but it's not much of a difference from the 62mm SXE". I thought the 62mm was 61.4mm? I think I am just running low on sleep.

Anyways, I was going to thumb through this help my lacking turbo knowledge:
