VE 6.7 conversion

Since I am using the 6.7 harmonic and Fan hub assembly I have to do a little grinding. To use a 6.7 harmonic with a 1st gen gear case I have to grind a small section at the bottom center of the case and oil pan.I dont like having to do this but the really is no choice, you cant space out the harmonic beacause it would be out of line with the other pullys,so in pic #1 I have marked the area to be ground and finished in # 2 Next I have to not a corner on the back side of the fan hub,all Iam doing really is taking down a sharp edge so it wont contact the gear case, I also have to put a slight indentation into the gear cover where the center of the hub bearing will ride,It does not take much

I had to do a bit of grinding on a pertrusion on the block to clear the injection pump,I also did a little grinding on the head just to have a little extra room to advance the timming .I did advance the pump gear one tooth,I do that in all VE 24 valves I do

Because I am putting this VE 6.7 into a 05 I have decided to use the air horn assembly for that year. The first pic is of the 6.7 air horn assembly,I just set it up to show it will work with a VE pump but you have to put about a 1" spacer, and you also have to modify the EGR crossover tube so it will line up.The second pic is one of my VE 24s ina 04. It shows a typical set up for a 03 to 05.I have covered alot of ground the last couple days so through out today I have alot more updates with pics

I have seen the inserts before, and I had no luck with the heally coil.I did not try those insers.I am making basicaly an insert but I am perminently fixing it to the VE delivery valve,I personally do not think those inserts will work because there is only a 2mm space to work with

As far as adapting the lines, personally, I had satisfactory luck with the helicoils and the inserts mentioned are definitely worth looking into.
You have your way that satisfies you, but I will say that it's complex and involved, which is exactly why myself and many others would be less tempted to try it.

It's just one man's opinion/belief, take it for what it's worth.

ha, this is cool! Mark was telling me about you and your conversions a while back, glad you made it to the site! I'd really like to know more about making the 68RFE happy since I'd like to put one in my dads 05 12 valve conversion... now that the 48RE is shifting nearly perfect hah.

How do you mean not work? Fit? Last? I've personally installed them in a VE 24V, and I've used them to put VE return banjo bolts in a P7100. They fit perfect and have held up for around 5000 miles so far on a VE.

So you have used the inserts on VE delivery valves. Now that I see some one has actually done it , it is something I would use.It definetly would keep things simple.

The first pic is showing the DV that I mill down,I then take another valve and pressed it onto the milled one,I cut the extra off, weld my seam and clean it up,takes about 2 hours to complete a set.I have lots of materiel so its not a big deal for me.there is another post from a guy who says he has used inserts and they work good,so it would make this part of the job a hole lot painless,I am hopping to beable to start it tomorrow

I almost got the LH side of engine finished, got the VE pump bracket and return line ran.I managed to scrounge up a set of injector lines.I made another set of delivery valves, The only thing I did different is tapped both pieces with a 3/8 tap and die, put some loc-tite on them and screwed them together,no welding.I guess I will be trying for tomorrow to start it,

Wow! This has to be a record. Somebody says they are going to do a unique build and by the 3rd page its almost ready to fire.
Good stuff

IIRC, John had been working on it for ~ a week prior to posting up about it.
Even at that, he got the long block from me 2 weeks ago and he's gotten the nit picky crap, along with the harder stuff, already done.

If he'd posted right when he started doing it, this would already be a 10 pager.

You wouldn't know that John doesn't have a shop, much less a place to even pull a truck into, but he's motivated, that's for sure.
