Abridged version of the build (lots of pics, few words)

Bad ass build and very nice numbers. Id like to see the truck one day. Im just up hwy 280 in Alex City.

Congrats Rich!!!

Awesome truck and Build man!

New huffers will make that thing fly over 800 I'm sure!! I'm looking forward to seeing in on the track too!!

Thanks brother!

:Cheer:

Probably gonna hit the track tonight.

We got back from the dyno and started right back up on the Chevelle, so we may still be tinkering with that.

We got it fired back up last night and it was running good, just gotta run the valves, dump the oil and tighten up the loose ends.

If we get that done today, I'll probably make a few passes tonight.

Sooooo, let's talk turbo's.....

I'm now planning on a bigger set this winter. Not much bigger, but a little.

What I'm thinking is 62 over 74. The current set is 59 over 71.

Here's the reasoning and requirements.....

Truck is a daily driver, excessive lag is unacceptable...period.

Truck tows the shop trailer and the flat bed with up to 4x4 Mega Cabs on it, max of around 12K lbs.

Goes to track on weekends to screw around.....I don't give a rats azz about running any specific class or association.

Truck will be sprayed.

Goal on motor is 800 - 850, would like to see 1000 on nitrous.

Already have plenty of fuel for those numbers, so that's not an issue.

Main thing I'm looking at is turbine housing sizes and A/R ratios.

Dual wastegates and a BOV are not out of the picture.

This will be a winter project, so let's hear what ya think.

Well I've had great luck (track numbers) with my 62/71/13ss over 480 race cover..... Calculation on my best runs were 850+/-....

You could go 62/65/13 on top for a good bit better spool with the 74-75 bottom charger.....But 480 will make your goal easier I'd say...

I've not towed much with my setup but I suspect it'd do decent....

Since your still in the stock Compression range, you'd lite my chargers a bit better than I can....I'm decompressed a bit due to a thicker gasket and the Monotherms having a lower deck and valve relief's......

I may go with a stock thickness HG if I ever have a reason to replace it (God I hope not soon!!!).....I'd like to up my compression a bit for a bit better spool...

Yeah, I could easily lose a bit of spool compared to what these do.

These light faster than the stock turbo, so that's not a HUGE issue.

I'm pretty set on the 62 for the secondary, just need to figure what turbine and housing size i want to use. I'l leaning more toward the 62/71/14 just to reduce the back pressure on the big and not have to gate it so much.

For the primary, I'm not sure if I want to do the 74 and be pushing it or go with the 80 and have room to spare.....gotta do some math here.

to be honest i would say a 62/71/13 ss over a 475 with mabye a 80/87 turbine wheel in a 1.1 ar housing or something like that to help keep spool up good i know a 75 with the 83/74 exhaust wheel in a .90 ar should be able to make 800-850 as a single with the right tuning so it shouldnt take much to meet your goals with that setup plus spoolup shoud be pretty quick as well

David- If you blow another engine I got a Ford Focus for ya:poke:

Bryan, just let him borrow your truck. It has that tiny little stock turbo in it. I'm sure it would be safe....

I've still got the TDI Golf.. I'll be ok.

I'm babying the Interceptor for a while... lol

i bult a set of 62/71/13ss over a 475 1.32 housing... spool is instant and it tows very well, setup went into a mega cab with 37's has towed over 15k on several ocassions. would highly recommend it... with a fletcher cam and 100hp 30lpm II injectors it dynoed 710 with over 1500ftlbs got 75lbs boost

thinking about it though, if you want 800+ i think i would go with a 480 with a 1.32 housing

When you get a urge to build something you can make a setup like this for me! I'll wait!!:rockwoot:

So, it's been a day or two since I updated this....

Had to pull the trans out, lost 1st and 2nd gear. The VB ate one of the plastic check balls and this fried the front clutch pack and bands.

The VB is all back together, I'm just waiting on the trans parts so I can get that back together.

I was gonna freshen the trans this winter anyways.....it just decided it was jealous of the motor and wanted to some love too I guess.

the whole setup was cheap, got the piping kit from source, top turbo is a htt stainless so had to modify the piping to fit, the atmosphere turbo (s475) are going for cheap $500-$600, if you get a standard cast housing on the top turbo then you wouldnt have to modify anything...

Only so many hours in a day! If you build it I'll buy it!!... plus a little for your time and labor of course!!!!! Man your right up the coast I'll even drive up to put it in! Unless you want to go to sea world with the family then I'll give you a place to stay!

just read thru the whole thread, looks great... i'm jealous!

anyone mind me asking the purpose of the studs in the valvetrain? Are the stock bolts really a failure point? Maybe a newb question but I honestly don't know..
