Test drove a 2012 F350 and was absolutely disgusted!

I never thought i'd own a ford, but last week after driving one i bought a 2012 king ranch and love it

They have only been out 2 years.

Not really. Its a weak design cloned from GM's 4.5L LMK with very weak rods and very poorly designed turbo that causes extreme drive pressures.

Besides high flow EGRs, DPFs, Urea injection and $900/ea injectors.

Just Dodge and GM, but the Cummins hasn't fundamentally changed in 24 years and the Durmax hasn't changed in 12 years. While Ford has gone through 5 completely different engine designs in that same time.

Doesn't do much good when the engine doesn't support much power above stock without having to replace half it's internals just to keep itself from daylighting the block (remind anyone of the 6.5?).

I think that you obviously have some Ford hate going on... thats all up to you... this is the first engine that ford has actually designed, the previous engines were all navistar engines put into the ford. The 6.0 was the biggest culprit for issues,,, the 6.4 worked very well, I know I had one, just sold it to my son,, and I wouldnt sell my son something that isnt something that I trust.

As for cloning from the gm platform, well that is wrong, it is a completely ground up design by ford, and they addressed alot of the known issues that known about the V8 based diesel engine and reworked them, such as turbo lag from too much distance to turbo from exhaust port.

I could go on,, and dont get me wrong, I still love the dodges,,, but dont cut the fords short, they are a good unit too,, and I would have no problems trusting one for a long term vehicle

You are DEFINITELY misinformed.

.

Nice truck, junk engine.

X2 Mine lives at the dealership turbo's other bs issues and then an engine because of a dropped valve now a dpf. I dislike chevy's but that's what the next one will be. This thing has more issues than our 6.0 with 350,000

I refuse to even get in one of these trucks to test drive it, I've been wanting one bad and I don't trust myself.

Don't do it. Its like nailing a fat chick and after realizing it was the best piece of ass you ever had.

Chris, what don't you like about the new Rams??

I know the Fords and GM'd are bad arse too, but i love my '12 Ram.
Deleted, Exhaust, & and a Minimax.. Mileage is up and power is decent.

Have heard the tranny's are tough in these Fords though.

I still can't warm up to the nose on the 2500-3500's, just the wrong angle makes me want to gag. Did drive a 2010 a while back and can't say I was wowed..... We are going to try and make it to test a 2012 Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn Truck Mega Cab in Edmonton.

So on my endeavour to find some dirt on the Ford 6.7 apparently they are crapping a lot of chargers. Now two instances of dropped valves.

Were you running a tuner of some flavour?

With how much I liked the damn thing.......:bang

Rode like a dream, don't know how a fixed front axle could ride that smooth.....one ton to boot.

How it sits on the lot.....

Power seems pretty decent (they're all gutless after you've drove more than double the power).

Was pretty set on a 2012 GMC Sierra Denali and after driving both today...LOL not so much....:bang

The displayed mileage was a downer though....with the big boots and lift it was sitting right at 15MPG (US).......So I'm clinging to that for a reason that I didn't cut a cheque right then and there......:hehe:

Very sharp, but how much?

LOL 80 Large....all in with taxes. Base truck before the add on's and taxes 60 I believe.

There great trucks not very many problems yet most problems have been in the narrow frame trucks.
I love sitting in ac seats

If i do a build/price it ends up around 65,000.

Unfortunately Chris and I live in Canada, vehicles cost more here... also that truck has a lift and tires on it, so that would be added in,, plus add in 5% GST on top of everything. My 2010 Harley edition listed at 80 but I picked it up for 62

Except they based their design on GM's engine.

such as turbo lag from too much distance to turbo from exhaust port.
Again, copy of the LMK. But, Ford "fixed" the lag issue by using an extremely small turbine and overloading it with a second compressor wheel. Thats why they need a wastegate despite being a VNT and also why they have such extreme drive pressures (which is also causing the valve problems).

You are DEFINITELY misinformed.

ORLY? Here is some education for you: New 6.7L Powerstroke Rods - Diesel Bombers

Around here the only ones that have had any valve issues were the 450/550's which have a different turbo and tuning. They also have lower gears and rev higher constantly. Why this isn't an issue to me is all have had complete engine replacements with no questions asked. Dodge wouldn't warranty bad injectors.

I hope your not seriously knocking the 6.7 because someone with big injectors, twin chargers and a hot tune windows a block when the rods fail. Because if you are remember the Duramax has the same issues and there has been plenty who have done the same thing to the Cummins. (Swole for instance). They all have their issues. So far I'm happy with mine, if and when it fails my opinion may change. My Cummins failed but I'm not knocking them. One out of the last 8 Cat powered semis I've owned cracked 3 liners, sometime chit happens. I can show you 3 broken Duramax cranks out of BONE STOCK motors........doesn't make them all junk.

Nope stock and will stay that way and mine is a 350.

my bet is they keep the air pressure low in the tires to soften the ride, in spec, but on the low edge........

Could be right, I didn't think they looked on the low side however. Hard to tell some times just eyeballing it.

This does have a lift and maybe the front springs aftermarked are tweeked for ride.

We took the GM Denali for another spin right after and even my wife said Jesus I think that Ford rides smoother.

GM upped the front suspension for the snow plow rating and the little bumps really seem to stand out now.

NO QUESTION way smoother than my 2004 Dodge 2500.

32,000 miles in 9 months on my 6.7 with no issues. My fiancé and my dad both said the same thing concerning the ride between the Chevy and the ford. The ford rides better and drives better. The cab and chassis trucks are having valve issues but like said earlier, different tuning and turbos. And yes, a few trucks have popped rods. They were running twin turbos. This engine is very young and the aftermarket is working on better understanding it. They've already got rods, springs, and pushrods out for them. Turbos are being worked on. Better tuning is coming out. I've heard a rumor or two that people are building a better pump for them.

In the mean time, there's already a couple of people over a 100k with no issue and racking up more. These engines are proving themselves more and more each day.

So one link to a damaged engine that was running SPE's compound turbo set-up and one YouTube video of another damaged motor. I stand corrected, they all suck. :hehe:

My Cummins did this!
