1967 RS Duramax Camaro

The Camaro is alive again. Finished installing the new fuel rail yesterday evening and appears to have solved the hard starting problem. At some point I'm going to remove the fprv from the original rail and see if I can find exactly what the problem was.

I will be unable to work on it much over the next couple weeks, let alone drive it, due to having surgery to repair a hernia this morning, but I did register for the Peggy Sue's Cruise and car show coming up in June which is a great car show in Santa Rosa and has a cruise through town which is a ton of fun, so I'm looking forward to it.

I forgot that I said I would post up some old pics of the Camaro before it underwent it's current transformation.

Some pics after my Dad painted it in the late 70's to early 80's. It was originally red with the nose stripe, but it was purple when my Aunt and Uncle owned it. My Mom bought the car from them, and my Dad repainted it and put the rally stripes on it. It had the SS hood on then, but the car isn't an RS/SS, just an RS.

It looked pretty damn good.

Here's some pics of when I was building it in high school. 1st pic is me when I was 17 attempting to pull the old gas tank. The car doesn't look bad in the pics, but after sitting for basically my entire life up until that point, it was hiding a lot.

Old original drum breaks. I converted it to disc brakes, no pic of that.

Pulling the 327. Was a hell of a runner back in the day from what I'm told and had a nasty street racing reputation.

And the motor I replaced it with. I'll let you guys guess what it was... the valve covers pretty much give it away. Ignore the stupid dinky air cleaner. Believe it or not, I don't miss that motor at all.

Have you put it on a scale yet? I'm curious about how much it weighs.

looks like a clean setup and one of the cooler ones ive seen.

:thankyou2:

Not yet. I might be able to soon though. I'll throw a guess out there and say 3700lbs.

As nice as the last iterations were, i like this one the best!

Me too! LOL

There's a burger joint not too far from my house that is kicking off their "hot rod night" every Friday during the summer this evening. I think I'll mosey on down and get a bite to eat and see some nice cars hopefully.

I'm also thinking about heading to Wednesday night drags next week if I feel up to it. I'll keep you all posted.

Some pics from Buns and Burgers yesterday evening.

Nice assortment and for once a camaro stands out from the crowd :poke:.

Whats the restaurant, looks familiar area as i was just up there the other day.

It's Big Boys Buns and Burgers. They have a facebook page with pictures from some of their previous shows.

At one point while I was talking to a group of guys about the car, another middle aged guy walked up with his 2 sons, pointed at the turbo and said "look at the carburetor.":umno:

Only one person there knew what motor it was, mostly everyone else that was curious enough to guess thought it was a turbo ls7. I told them it didn't run on gas so then they thought it ran on propane LOL I finally told them that it was a Duramax and they were pretty shocked.

As far as I could tell everybody liked it. It was kinda fun hearing them guess what motor was in it. Nobody called me an idiot, moron, or said I needed to be shot in the head like some folks on a couple different facebook pages have, which I appreciated LOL It had a pretty decent sized crowd around it a few times, and it was nice to be taken seriously when explaining all the work I did to it. All in all it was a good first car show experience with it and I'm looking forward to more.

That's great to hear!!! I need to get working on my Camaro now!!!

That's because everyone can easily be a keyboard tuffguy when they are alone. Face to face they wouldn't say a word. Besides, it's a Camaro like no other I've seen before. I give you tons of credit for thinking outside the box and I'm sure they do too (JEALOUSY). Very impressive ride with great attention to detail. I just find it hard to believe most people were stumped on what engine it was. After you get the car tuned in, they'll all want a diesel!

You should make up a photo scrapbook of all the build pics you've posted and put it out for people to look at when you're at car shows like this. People will then truly understand and appreciate just how much work you've put into your car. Again, congrats on getting the credit for your build that you richly deserve.
