'93 CTD With GD 60mm Turbo Upgrade

So I have a '93 Club cab W350 dually. When I bought the truck from the original owner he said that a local shop turned the fuel pump up back in the 90's and has been driving it ever since. Well when I bought the truck it smoked... A lot... I enjoyed it, at first. I turned the fuel down and with in a couple weeks, the stock H1C went out the compressor wheel went about 1/8 into the compressor housing. So then I ordered a new turbo from Gillette Diesel with 14cm2 exhaust housing with 60mm compressor. I turned the fuel back up to kinda experiment with power, drove it that way for 3 months then, I got tired of the smoke and fuel mileage so I turned the fuel back down and within 2 weeks again the turbo did the exact same thing. Could it be that my truck is cursed and is trying to tell me that it doesn't like being slow? My concern is that I have a new Gillette turbo on the way this one with 16cm2 exhaust housing. I dont want it to go out also. Any ideas?

Replace the oil feed line and drain for the turbo, sounds like you have a line collapsing and starving the charger. I think what you are seeing with your fuel is just a coincidence.

Edit: the stock turbo never grenaded, I just got too unhappy with the shaft play so I had it rebuilt. Thats when I drove the truck for a while with the fuel up with no problems. When I turned the fuel down it went out. The stock turbo lasted 20 years and 145k miles. Could anything else be causing these issues? Could my stock muffler be a culprit?

Well it happened again. I just got my brand-new turbo from Gillette diesel on Tuesday I have not even drove about three hours and its already gone out. I did what you wall suggested and I checked the oil supply line in the oil drain line and they were both clear with no restrictions. I also checked my oil pressure and it seems fine. Could this have anything to do with the stock exhaust? By the way my injection pump is turned way down right now about at stock level.

How are you driving this thing? Do you have gauges? You've got an oil feed or drain problem like the other guys said if you're driving this thing normal. I put a 60mm GD compressor wheel on my factory turbo on my 92 with a 14cm exhaust housing. It had 27X,XXX miles on it, it finally chewed it's bushings into pieces, only after I ran the piss out of it for about 15 min. straight.

I drive it normal, I use my truck like anybody else who DD a truck... I know there is a so called "break in period" for the first 200 miles or so, I have't even reached that with out boosting or full throttle... maybe Gillette is rebuilding with chineese knock of bearings and thrust plate?

Seeing as how you've lost three turbos in a short period of time I highly doubt it's a knock off issue.

A buddy of mine had a Subaru Legacy that was turbocharged and he knocked out two or three turbos in a couple days just to find out his supply line was blocked off.

The suggestion was to replace, not inspect.
The other thing to look for it an outlet for boost causing an overspeed.

Get some pictures pipe caps. Put an air supply in one and leave the other alone. Clamp one into the pipe at the intake horn and the other at the turbo outlet.

Get a PVC cap that fits the inlet boot to your turbo and install a schraider valve in the cap for air pressure. What boost pressure is it making?

The lines may be clear but they are collapsing with heat. I would just replace them, a lot cheaper then a new turbo, again.

Ok so im just gonna order some of that fancy Braided hose and fancy fittings from Silicone intakes, what size is the fittings (the compression fittings not the o-ring fitting). I would measure it but im at work and want this ordered asap. Pleases and thank you.
