Piston ring gap for higher hp?

Depends a lot on what you're doing with the 1200 HP really.
 
Curious to hear this as well.

I'm sure it's dependent on whether it's a street application or not.

I set mine at the top %40 of factory spec I think.

I'd go by the maximum spec from your ring manufacturer, and add another .004 to it. Because butted ring gaps suck, and 1200hp is gonna be burning hot.
 
The higher piston to wall clearance on high horsepower diesels usually produces a little more gap than factory. A nice hot break in will help seat ring promptly.

So .022", .051" and. 027" should be fine then? What if I were to spray the truck too? Haven't decided yet, but I'd rather do them now, than break a crown a goof up my block.
 
What is your PTW clearance, what type of piston I assume oem type?

The best way I can describe it, for a 1200 hp setup, run the piston to bore loose, and the ring gaps loose.

Use the stock recommendations as a place to start and go up from there.

They're stock 6.7 pistons.
 
I wasn't far off in my thinking then. My PTW was high and I set the gaps loose. Oil consumption isn't bad but fumes can be annoying during the winter.
