This proceedure MUST BE DONE WITH THE ENGINE OFF ! ! Do not attempt to do this job with the engine running.
Remove the inlet plastic elbow tube off the intake side of turbo assembly.
Look inside the inlet opening, you will see a round ring the is being retained by a large snap ring.
Remove the snap ring with pick or small screwdriver, use care when prying this snap ring out, try not to score or scratch up the inlet casing. Remove silencer ring.
Now take the time to check the 'play' of the shaft inside the turbo, I would advise this be done if the truck is either used or you are looking at a truck for purchase. Make sure the impellar is not touching the inside of the case.
If it is touching the case, then the shafts bearing is worn, and its time to either have the turbo reconditioned or replaced.
Removing the silencer ring allows a better intake flow into the turbo. And it also allows for a slightly responsive spool up. Tests have proven that this mod gives about 7-10 hp over keeping the ring in there.
And the real benifit is you will be able to hear your turbo sing!:woohoo:
