Is there any reasons not to run a set of twins on a manual truck. I wonder is there any downsides and what possible turbos would be ok to run? Would a set of hx35 and an ht3b be ok or is that not even worth messing with? I know most twin setups are on automatic trucks. Thanks

A 35/3b combination is one of the most proven twin combos out there. Great for 550 and under. They'll do 600 but they work best around 550hp. And twins on a manual are probably better than twins on an auto because you don't lose as much boost between shifts with twins vs. a single and they'll spool quicker than a big single once you get in gear.

twin turbos

Thanks for the replys. I have a 66 71 on the truck now and have been really wanting to do a set of twins. I have looked in the past and was told it was better to run a large single and forget the twins. Would a hx35 with a s475 be a pretty good combo also if the hx35 ht3b combo is only good to 600 at most? Thanks all

The HX35 is what limits HP.

You could sell your turbo and do a S362 and a S475. That will get you in the 700s.

The 475. With the hx35 is a great combo. U could always get a bd 58/65/14 they spool good and fairly cheap and put it with the 475 that combo spooled great to

they're great if you tow... or are making sick power... otherwise, I prefer a nice single... I've done the 35/40 over an S475 on a 12v... hated it

alright I gotta ask.. Why'd you hate it? I had 7 singles of all different makes and sizes before I got the BD towing twins. The twins were way better then any of the singles. I'm hoping with a fresh motor (that doesn't have leaking exhaust valves ) and a GOOD set of twins, my truck should be a real pleasure to drive, and tow like crazy.

btw mines a manual..

they just didn't light up like a single... the truck was so much quicker w/ the sps62... the turbo lit instantly when I got back on the next gear

obviously the EGT's were higher and it wasn't near as good of a towing setup, but it was FAR more fun to drive empty

well I guess it just depends on what kind of hp your after.. Staying under 500 I don't see where a smaller single (like a 62) would be a bad thing

If you're not trying to win dyno competitions, you will be much happier with the smallest top turbo that will make your horsepower goal. Fast spoolup is the most important factor for a fun street driven truck. The only place large top turbos shine is land speed racing and dyno competitions using nitrous oxide.

what he said... everybody thinks they want a 64/71 over an S480 untill they drive the thing...

I'd rather be a little too small on my turbo/turbos than a little too big... because the truck with "a little too small" will be "a ****load more fun to drive" LOL

but what do you know, you're only making 500rwhp w/ an HE351!

I don't understand that. I think you have those two words backwards. However....

The spool up I have on my twins is insane. Before I had the s476 under the 62/65/13ss, I was running the 62 as a single. My twins hit just as hard and fast as the 62 did by itself. I also added Fletchers cam at the same time as the s476.
