01 auto and DP?

thinking about getting a DP for an 01 w/ an auto.

what do i need to do to keep the tranny in one piece?


was told a shift kit will help but only for a lil while.

and how do i tell if there are PMRs or Forged rods in this 01?

Trans should be fine as it is, assuming its in good condition. I've had a couple 7.3L's and that tranny seems to hold up very well as long as you are fairly nice to it. I had a 2000 F-350 with a Hypermax/Dr performance stack, ATS turbo, and a few other odds and ends. Ran 37 inch Boggers on it too. I even truck pulled it. The original stock trans was in great shape at almost 80k when I sold it.
An 01' has forged rods, I think. I may have it backwards but either way they had the good rods until 02' IIRC.

They switched to PMR's half way through 2000. If im not mistaken. Best thing to do is to check to be safe. Tranny will hold for a while as long as you dont beat it up but valve body work and a TC will make it last for a good while, and if you tell Jody that you have PMR's he will set you up with tunes that will help prevent throwing one through the side of the block.
