How do you tell the difference between the 555 and 600 motors? I heard you could tell simply by checking for a cat, the 555's don't have them and the 600's do, is that true and is it the only way?

Thanks,
Ted

you should be able to look at the sticker on the side of the motor.

will the sticker (I haven't actually looked yet) say 04.5 if its an 04.5?

No, the sticker will say 305hp @2900 if it's a 04 and 325 @ 2900 if it's 04.5, or you could read the build date in the door jam. Anything after June 04 is a 600 or 610.

sticker says 325, it has the cat and the build date says 04/04 so...

nope, just picked it up used a few days ago, just got lucky I guess cause I wasn't concerned if it was a 600 or not.

There are a few ways to tell the 555 from the 600:
1.the rated hp on the valve cover sticker
2.555 had 3.5 exhaust, 600 has 4"
3.555 fan shroud attaches to radiator, 600 fan shroud attaches to motor
4.If the plastic vavle cover isnt there the 555 vavle cover's bolts have no rubber grommets around the bolts, the 600's do
5.Stock 600's came with catalytic converters from the factory

I am sure there are more ways, but these came to mind, horefully they are of some help.
