241/271 transfer case

Did a search but couldnt find anything. Wanting to know if the output shafts are the same on the 271 and the 241 dhd. Like would the slip yoke off a 271 work with the big output shaft 241s?

From what I have found yes.

Now if only it worked for a zf6 with no adapter plate.

I would suggest a flange style and put a slip yoke in the shaft instead.

Why's that? Slip yoke does just as good from my experience.

271 is bigger than the 241 and there is a decent length difference (the 271 being longer) i had to have my driveshafts cut and just bought a yoke and had them make it work

With the flange its not going to lose fluid out the slip yoke.

Do you have the 241 DLD or the DHD? I hear the DLD has a smaller output shaft, DHD is the same as the 271.

the DLD has the smallest output, there are a two that I know of outputs for a dhd the late DHD is still bigger than the DLD but smaller than the 271, the early DHD is slightly bigger 32 spline than the late DHD 31 spline. Can't rememer the spline count on my 271 off the top of my head.

I have a 2002 with the 241DHD with a one piece tail housing and the yoke would not fit on the 271. I eventually went to the Ford mainshaft/flange and put the slip yoke on the driveshaft.

Mine was tales from the internet. I'd trust the guy who actually tried it. My truck came with the DLD, so take that for what its worth.

May be a smidge offa topic but just curious here, the 271 be a stronger t-case over the 241? What trucks came with the 241 and 271?

The 241 is on the 94-2002 trucks with a few changes between years. The 271 is on the 03-08(ish?) 3rd gen trucks and Ford Super Duties.

ya the 271s are monsters sitting next to the 241. i just wanted to know if i could use a 271 slip yoke in the big shafted dhds, but it sounds like i cant

use the slip yoke from a 3rd gen , joints are the same 2nd and 3rd gen , have done it done it lots of times
