2wd Traction on street tires

So, I have 2WD traction problems. Its obvious I knew this was going to be a problem. I'm just looking for ways to help tune the rear suspension to improve upon things better short of just pulling power from the truck.

305 Nitto 420s with 30psi. The Caltracs, in 4x4 seem to like being flush with the leafs. It didn't hop around last year on a 4x4 launch. Rear is lowered 1.5" by moving the OEM blocks.

Suggestions?

Add a little weight as far back as you can. It definitely helps me. Mine is fine until I lock the converter, but it's always going to be an issue with these front weight biased bast@rds!

yeah, I can't spin a thing over 20-30mph with the converter unlocked, even with a lower then stock stall.

I hesitate to add weight, I'm trying to remove some, and will this week when I get get the time.

- start taking weight off the front end
- decrease spring rate in rear (if possible)
- better tires

I like my toyo proxy 2 tires.

It spins on lock up but grabs pretty quick. They were my choice out of the nitto or toyo.

DR's don't come in a 32" do they?

Don't think so, but i have been wrong before. And x2 on batteries I'n the bed. I removed my bumper and hitch off my truck for a roll pan. Which is probably equivalent to the weight of putting the batteries In the bed, i sure noticed a difference. Locking the converter is not and option on my chitty street tires.

Biggest I have found that will the 3rd gen brakes is the M&H 390/40/17's.

Loose as much weight in the front as you can. Take the preload out of the Caltracs. If you can ditch the overload and a leaf to help transfer weight it will help. That being said though my reg cab blows the tires off on the street running 30/14.0/16 DOT slicks.. I plan to look into the QA1 shocks next.

more tire is the only real cure.. hoosier makes 31" tall street leagal tires ill be going to next in the 2wd..

Link please.

The problem I have with going any smaller is how the truck will look, as dumb as it sounds, tiny tires on the street looks ghey.

Now, if I lowered the front and lowered the rear some more, then it wouldn't be as much as a problem. Next winter I'm planning on doing just that.

Maybe I'll suffer with crappy 2wd traction. I haven't yet, but the intimidation factor has gota be good. :)

im not sure how small of wheel you can fit but they make em in 31x13.50x 15 and 16's Ill look it up for ya. Look under Hoosier quick time pro dot..

16's require a lot of grinding and back spacing to fit on 3rd gens. Not going to fit a 15" unless you do something way different with the rear breaks.

Hoosier does not make a DOT in 30" or bigger for a 16" wheel not to mention your not going to want to go driving the streets on a QTP in one of these trucks.

M&H is about the only one with real options for 3rd gens and the 390/40/17 DR is the only real radial then the 30/14/16 DOT slick. The second gens can fit a 15" and they have more options.

What hole are you using on the caltracs both at the bellcrank and at the rear bracket?

I know it might look silly but having the awful pre-runner reverse rake helps a lot with traction as long as you maintain full front-end travel and simply lower the rear to gain the reverse rake stance.

while going to a 17" rim and fitting a proper drag radial is a solution that'll function well for a straight line. I'd like to limit my sidewall size. Granted these are not corvettes, I do enjoy a bit of consistency and certainty on the street in the handling department.

something like this...
