Not sure of the exact reason for placement here )if its what I think it is I would have done the whole pipe) but that appears to be heat shielding.

In the high price world it is done with actual gold plating as gold has an incredible capacity to dissipate heat.

It is on a lot of space vehicles and under the hood/trunk of the McLaren F1.

Obviously it is quite pricey to use actual gold and not quite a home gamer thing so companies have made alternatives in the form of an adhesive backed heat shielding material wit similar properties.
