The pre-registration list is out.

3 Streamliners:

Mormon Missile, Duramax powered, 373-440ci, Nevada
Competition Engineering, probably Cummins, over 501 ci (dual engines?), Iowa
Swap Witch, unknown, 184-261 ci, Washington

Both the MM and CE cars could potentially hit the World's Fastest Diesel title at 350mph (informal) held by the English JCB team.

3 Trucks:

Casper, Duramax powered, 373-440ci, California
Salt Toy, Nissan with Detroit power, California
Dealer's Machine, unknown, 261-306ci, Texas

I can't wait. The salt flats are an amazing place, it should be on every hot rodders (diesel or not) "bucket list". I look forward to it every year.

Yes the " Dealers Machine " truck will be at Bonneville, with a little luck, some great help from our sponsors and a TEAM effort we plan to make 200 MPH. The new engine build is going great , suspension is a work of art , safety well it is JOB ONE. Can't wait ,hope to see some Comp D members out on the salt and looking forward to meeting the Casper LSR team.

Please post some info/pics/vids on your truck so we can drool over it :D

We are just starting to get Casper ready for Bonneville. We are using a different set-up than El Mirage, which is a 1.3 mi dirt course. Bonneville has more traction, and is 3 miles or 5 miles long depending on the course.

Casper gets help from:

  • The diesel internet community, the place to go for tech and resources. Robert, Johnny, Jason, and friends, for wrenching and pit crew.
  • Inglewood Transmission, Mike Lovrich.
  • SoCal Diesel, Guy Tripp.
  • Turbo By Garrett
  • Pacific Performance Engineering
  • Mahle
  • ARP
  • Carillo
Thanks out to all.

To clear up internet rumors, Casper did not run a Gear Vendor Overdrive unit last year at Bonneville or ever. It had a Duramax engine, Allison Trans, and AAM 1150 rear axle, and factory driveshaft. No aftermarket overdrive was necessary, or will we be using one this year either.

Yes it an amazing place. Probably the largest display of hotrod technology on earth. There are over 500 pre-entries of all different kinds. Even the push vehicles can be "must sees".

Unlike most racing, the whole thing is organized and run by volunteers, so it gives a more down to earth feel than commercial racing events. You feel a part of it even if you are not racing, and everyone is very friendly.

There is free camping at the "bend in the road" right before the entrance, casinos 4 miles down the road, and food/drink available on the salt flats. I forget what the spectator passes cost, but they are not expensive.

The website is http://www.scta-bni.org for details.

Thanks! One of the biggest challenges for the diesel trucks is gearing. We have been running 3.42's in the factory axle, and taking the engine past 4500rpm. Our highest GPS speed has been 181mph, but the engine quit doing that method.

So we are looking at different options now.

The CompEng car has already went 306+mph for the SCTA-BNI Bonneville record in C/DS (306-373ci) with a single 5.9 Cummins I'm told. The JCB car went 317mph in the AA class, which is unlimited engine displacement, but has a highest clocking of 350mph. The JCB car was driven by Commander Andy Green, who is the fastest driver ever at 800mph. It was a $10 million dollar effort.

It's a David vs. Goliath effort by CE. But don't count out the Mormon Missile, which capable of much higher numbers than record book shows. While the MM isn't racing the same class, sometimes informal records are just as sweet as trophy records.

And yes, Pat helps me with the posts. :D

In the class CE is running, multiple engines are allowed, but we don't know what they are using.

The largest single engine used for land speed racing might have been the 1,472 ci Detroit Diesel used by the semi-truck Phoenix to go 272mph, world's fastest truck:
