94' starter question

Brother just picked up a 94' 7.3 turbo idi today for couple hundred bucks. The truck was missing the starter so he bought one from Oreillys went to install it and the teeth don't touch the flywheel. You can just hear it spin. Did they make a couple different starters? Any ideas?

does the ring gear look good and you can interchange starters from newer model years on some

Where is the ring gear? The flywheel looks good. Is there a pice missing between the starter and flywheel?

Gotta specify auto or manuel when buying, theyr different. Sounds like the wrong one

He told them auto maybe they put the wrong one in the box. Kinda sucks cause the original one was missing. So now he is stuck buying another one because they said they wouldn't return it. His luck sucks lol

94 was a odd year for ford diesels...the idi naturally aspirated was an option, the idi turbo was an option, and powerstroke was an option. IIRC the powerstroke starter is shorter...so sounds like the guy at orielys doesn't know the difference between the two.

They did give him the wrong one. He bought one at ford.

Got the other new starter in and for 670 bucks he's got a damn good running f350 4dr long bed with only 103,000 miles

Yes sir. Truck has not been started in 4 years. Changed all the fluids and diesel new filters after the starter started right up.

Damn killer deal he got. That Dana 60 alone is worth that price plus some....if he ever wants to sell Id be a buyer LOL and I'll give him 700

He's going to drive it for a month or two put rims and tires on it. Make sure it's working good then sell it to some kid for 5,500 then buy his cummins motor he needs.
