Ok guys, gonna swap out both driveshafts while the tcase is getting done... My question is who makes the lightest and strongest..im 4wd 2007 qc.. Should i do aluminum, or oem material... Are chromoly driveshafts something to look at.??.... Thanks in advance guys...

I run a .125" wall aluminum drive shaft on my crew cab duramax. Making almost 1200whp with zero issues. It was built by Page Driveshaft out of Idaho falls, Idaho.

Good info. I need to look at driveshafts soon. What od shaft do you run?

.125 wall 5" diameter shaft here with 0 issues 2wd application 1200rwhp 30psi launches at 6400lbs..

Mine is 5" OD also. I can pour smoke off all 4 tires no problem. That shaft doesn't even sweat.

Is there a noticeable difference on a dyno/track? Rev gain? What is the weight difference?

The stock aluminum shaft easily weighs half of what my new one does. But the stock one literally only weighed maybe 15 lbs. The yoke was probably 10lbs of it.

Thanks guys.. Gonna order from driveshaft specialists out of texas.. The new rear aluminum will be 15 lbs lighter then oem..and the front looks like a beefed up piece.

I run their shaft also. Couldn't be happier. Definitely lighter than the 2 piece with the carrier bearing etc.

I had a 5" .125" wall aluminum shaft made for a qclb 2nd gen and it weighs a lot less than a oem shaft out of a rclb. Got it done local at Columbus joint and clutch, I believe they did some shafts for firepunk also. The cost was a little over 600. They said it really didn't matter the length, it would be pretty much the same cost because they have to use the same piece of aluminum to cut to length whether it was 40" or 80"

They can make samething, and you can drive there.

Ordered both shafts from driveshaft specialists.. I did have other choices, that were just as good. But i know there work ethic, so i went with them.. I'll post them when i get em... Thanks guys for the info

Where can you get these things cheaper? Looks like driveshaft specialist is $795 for the 5x.125 with 1480s
