I'm trying to balance some 24v rods for a build and I'm having some trouble getting consistent readings when taking the rods on and off of the balancing fixture.

I'm using a balancing fixture similar to this one.

Anyone ever have any trouble like I'm having? Maybe I need to go to a chain style balancing fixture?

I built my own chain style fixture to balance my Kubota rods. I spent a lot of time with it (I only had to do 3 rods). I had trouble getting consistent readings too. I just put them on the fixture then jiggled them around a bit to where I got the same reading several times. I found it is tedious and time consuming. I spent at least an hour per rod but I got them within a tenth of a gram on both ends.

^^That's exactly how I did mine. A little back woods, but it worked.

Alright looks like tomorrow I'll be reworking my fixture to hang the rods with chains.

Have you removed some (lots) of the bottom (big end) balancing pad material on the 24v rod? I'm thinking about taking a 1/8 or so of that pad.

Well I played around with my fixture today. Got it setup with chains and it seems to work pretty good now. It will give me readings consistently within .5 grams every time now. Its still a little picky though, ya have to jiggle it a few times to get it settled in.

Mike with as much material in that area of the cap I cant see it hurting anything to remove a bit more than what it takes just to get them balanced.

Here's what I ended up with.

have any one measured the weights on the rods? I noticed that I had 6-8 grams difference between all six rods. The pistons, bolts, pins weighed the same. My 24VP rods weighed around 2100+ grams area.

I'm changing pistons on my engine, so my crank will have to be rebalanced. I'm going from a VP piston to 12V piston. There is about 125 grams difference between the two pistons.
