I'm going to pull my engine out as soon as it gets warm outside to do a re-ring job along with new rod/main bearings. While the rods are out I'd like to get them all the same weight. I should be able to get a decent scale to use and would like to do it myself.

Should I try to weigh both ends separately or just go off total weight? And where on the rod should metal be taken from to not affect its strength?

Should I do the same to the pistons and if so where do I need to remove metal from those?

No need on a stock CR PM rod they should all be the same weight, that was part of the reason Cummins went to a PM Rod and cost.

Oh ok good to know. I will check them still and if there are any differences I will report back and go from there!

Is there any real benefit to polishing the rods?
