Does anyone have a good source for solder type cable ends? I have a bunch of cable from cat machines and want to build some new cables for my Dodge. We usually buy from fleet pride but would like other options
Napa has a pretty good selection of solder on ends, Northern tool also has a good selection. Northern tool is cheaper but I never seem to have time to order and wait for them to be shipped.
McMaster Carr has the ones with solder in them already so you don't even need the slugs. Easy to do and looks super nice. I saved $60 making my own this way with welding cable when I ran my battery to the back over Napa making me one.
So, why the division on crimp vs solder from you guys? I've done both. Have the materials for both at work.
I have to say I've never seen a cable migrate out of a soldered end.
I like to pack it with dialectic grease and crimp/heat shrink. Tried solder in the past with great luck when it is done right. Solder is great in theory but dont get it perfect and the end is coming off.
