Benefits of the EGR delete kit?

I just purchased a 6.4 that has several upgrades. It has a flo pro straight exhaust, 4'' downpipe, AFE stg 2, and a spartan tuner (Dashdaq). The best fuel economy I've seen so far is 16.2 on the highway. That's with a large lift and 37's. I'm completely new to the 6.4.

Can someone explain the benefits of deleting the EGR? Will this improve fuel mileage, or allow me to run different tunes that would improve it? Eventually I'm sure I'd like to mod it a little more, or atleast add a small shot of nitrous to it, since I have seen they react great to around an .80 shot.. If anyone has information, please share.. Thanks..
