Gathering ideas for the new stereo setup for my Ultra LX. Has 8 speakers with 2 of them being under the hatch. Four 6 1/2's and four 6x9's. Thinking a couple sets of JL m650's 6.5" to drop in. There isn't a great selection of 6x9's so I was thinking of replacing at least one set with JL m770 7.7".

I have heard free air subs don't sound nearly as good as vented box set ups. But toying with a couple JLw3's.

Alpine amps seem to be a good bang for buck. Couple pdx 4.100's for the speakers and a 1.1000 or 1.600 for the subs.

Post up some pics of your setups and some ideas. I know there must be a couple of you out there.

I got your back bud. Check out wetsounds audio. Top shelf for marine audio!

Just finished wiring my buddies 28' Nordic Heat for sound. 16 6.5" Clarion speakers, 4 in the open bow, 6 in the cutty, 6 under the rear bench, 2 12" Rockford Fosgates in sealed box under the rear bench as well. 3 scorpion amps for the speaker, a single JL 1200.1 for the subs. Freakin loud. Those clarions put out some good quality sound. Still got to tune the subs but for now they sound pretty good.

I wish Focal made marine stuff and this would be an easy choice. I have a JL 700/5 in my truck and have been really pleased with the clean sound. Thinking it might be a good choice to for some w3's. Wonder how they would act at 300rms each?

As in wire 4 speakers and a sub per amp.

JL Audio M650-CCX 6-1/2" marine speakers with white "Classic Grilles" at Crutchfield.com

JL Audio M770-CCS-CG-WH 7.7" marine component speaker system with white "Classic Grilles" at Crutchfield.com

JL Audio M700/5 5-channel marine amplifier 75 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms + 240 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms at Crutchfield.com

What model clarions?

w3's @ 300rms would be in the sweet spot. That'd sound real good. I'm pushing those Fosgates at 300 and they put out a lot of bass....enough that running 60mph, they are still very audible.

Every shop I have talked to and everything i've read all say the same thing, marine JL rocks clarion. Boy they are proud of their speakers too.

I love JL stuff, but for the price he got everything for and how it actually sounds, there's no complaint. Not sure how much more of a difference running JL components would have made, but he's happy with it now.

Also have the dilemma of internet purchasing for 1/3-1/2 the price of the local stuff.

I am glad this thread came about, I have a 04 Supra that I bought from a bank that has nothing for sterio or speakers. My 14 year old told me I needed to buy everything Polk audio, and well Polk hasn't even been mentioned yet. So JL seems to be the choice in this thread. One question I have is the boat has a hole in the back for remote radio controls, what should a guy do about a head unit? Sorry to hijack your thread.

After a good 8 hours of reading I came up with JL and Wetsound for the high end speakers. JL m series are considerably more money than the mx series, but are supposed to handle juice better. Haven't read anything saying someone bought the mx series and wish they had went to m's though.

JL and Alpine for amps. They don't drain the batteries as bad, deliver true watts, don't shut off after extended use, and are a good price for quality.

Fusion 700 series deck seems to be a favorite. Haven't done too much looking into them as I don't think I need more than single din non marine alpine.

Can go as crazy as you want on subs.

Clarion makes head units compatible with the control that would go by your swim deck.

AHall, you would not be dissapointed with wetsounds. They are bad azz. you will notice if you look at the Malibu wakesetters, their stereos are wet sound. JL is good also. But when I get my dream boat, im making sure its stacked with wetsound audio. if you go on youtube, theirs a centurion boat that has the 10" tower speakers, and you cant even see the boat and you can hear Stevey ray von still singing the sky is fallin haha!

These threads are worse than chevy vs ford stuff.

For me i go with Rockford. I will reccomend that because i own it and it sounds good, really good.

I have 4 8" speakers, 4 6.5" speakers and one 12" sub.
