The brakes on my 02 just started screwing up. They work sometimes but most of the time the pedal goes to the floor. Would this be the anti-lock brake messing up? I wouldn't think it would be the master cylinder working sometimes.
 
These questions always concern me because if you can't diagnose it it raises doubt about the level of competence to work on it.

ABS should be obvious. Brakes would feel like the ABS is active, you will feel and hear it.
Master cylinder, well it can work and then not work.
 
Is the abs able to bypass somehow even not running? I know zip about this system. When I got in it the peddle went to the floor, front brakes would hold a little. Driving it home the brakes worked fine a few times. I went to drive it again and they don't work. Reservoir is full. I'm leaning toward master cylinder failure but not sure yet.
