Can't remove power steering pump...

I took all the bolts off and it slid back about 1/4 inch out of the aluminum adapter but wont go any further, its like its caught on something inside and I dont want to break the adapter prying on it...

1990 2wd auto...

If it's the dual pod style combo pump, the combo pump drive gear shaft is pressed into the power steering pump.
The whole combo must be totally removed.
CAUTION: be careful trying to get it apart, I have seen many of the pumps where the shaft is cracked in trying to fix it and the end in the power steering pump breaks off, either during the repair or shortly after it is "fixed".

How do you go about getting the gear off the shaft now that its out???

IIRC, it also presses off the shaft from the front.

Yes sir.
This is why the are such a PITA to get serviced when they break.
