Hey all....

Finally got to hook this POS truck of mine...

Result:

NOT. IMPRESSED.

I know I did ALOT of things wrong... But I'm lookin' for even more input from you guys.

Things I noticed I did wrong...

1) Didn't come off the starting line NEAR hard enough... Not enough boost built.

2) Probably NEVER should have hit the lockup switch...

3) WAY too much fuel for the little 64//14/71 charger that is currently set at about 38 PSI Boost.

Mods on the truck are.... (Not listing all the support mods such as studs and gauges and etc.)

- Ported and Polished Head w/ O-Rings
- Custom Tubular Side Draft Intake
- Flux 3.5 Injectors
- Smarty TNT/R
- ATS 3Rd Gen Manifold
- HTT 64/14/71
- AFE Stage 3 Intake
- Magnaflow 5” into 7” Stack using the Magnaflow Muffler
- FASS 200/150
- Stage 3 Pump from Floor-It
- Full Billet Auto w/ DTT Super Single Converter
- 3.73 Gears
- Stock 265/75/17 BFG Rugged Trail Tires

Smarty Settings - SW7, RPM High, Shift Limiter Off, RP 4, Timing 2, Torque Management 4.

I'm debating adjusting the wastegate on the turbo to about 50 PSI from the 38 I'm running now... What are your thoughts on this? I'm talking with Chris at ED about a custom 2.6 charger for the truck, but if it can't keep the little 64 spooled in third with the converter locked... What good is a bigger charger gonna do?

Here's the video...

Hit the lockup switch as soon as it shifted to second... Seems like it fell off the charger as soon as it tried to shift to third. Unlocked and she came right back up on the charger, but I think it had also dropped to second again as well.

Gimme some ideas of what I've got wrong. This thing should run better than this I'd think.

You think I'm just THAT overfueled that it's putting out the fire?

Firt of all you need a set of bump stops/suspenseion stops to keep your truck from squatting like a F150 trying to haul a 30ft 5th wheel. 2nd of all make sure you hitch is at 26" and adjustable (some places they measure a lil high, some a little low). 3rd yeah it didn't look like you sat there and built much if any boost. I pull a standard trans truck, but I was the big auto boys like Brad Furlong "Grainfarmer" on here, and Joe Underwood "Underwood Tire" on here and they usually build about 10 psi of boost or so and walk their trucks out. It takes a lot of RPM's to hit 3rd so you may be stuck with 2nd locked with 3.73's. Next time don't try for 3rd unless your maxing out rpm's.

Thanks everything I noticed. ;)

1. dont lock up untill third

2. dont shift into third untill you hit about 3800rpm

3. with that turbo it shouldnt matter what boost you leave the line at.

4. ^^^^^ what got smoke said about bump stops and hitch height.

Your truck sounded like every other workstock truck in our area.

A side draft intake and a 64mm turbo?????????

Are you running low range????

My truck shifts from 1st to 2nd so fast you cant even hear it. You were 20-30 ft out before you hit second.

if you are willing to push it harder you could manually shift it and I would for sure get do whatever to make it turn more boost

What i noticed in i pull with a auto. You had no boost to amount to any thing. You need stops in traction bars. How your vavle body set up to lock. Does it lock in second or will it lock in frist. If its set up to lock in second flip the switch in forget about it. I have mine set to lock in second for now. I come out of the hole at 20 lbs or better. Let the tranny do it thing in lock when it hit second. I would at least do a gear change if you plan on pulling much at least go to 4:10.
Here is a vid of my truck last year, i didnt have any mods done to the head but everything else was close to your beside i had 4:10 gears

My question is was that the stock turbo class??

LMAO... Yep.

Brad Hodler pulled the class with his Maroon truck also.

Leonard Bradshaw as well.

Couple other trucks with chargers well above stock.

Wasn't supposed to be a "Stock Turbo" class anyway... Was supposed to be no bars, no blocks, no hanging weight.

Then they changed the rules... Which later in the evening got changed back to the original "no bars, blocks, hanging weight...."

I was just planning to use the class as a shakedown run for my truck.... Hell... half the litterally stock trucks whooped mines ass anyway.

Besides that... I was the only one of the bunch of cheaters that stated when I signed up that I wasn't hookin' for money. I told them I wanted an exhibition run.

Yeah... I've got everything ordered from Ballistic Fabrication to build a wicked set of traction bars, and I'm still trying to figure out how I want to do the bumpstops..

We just got the truck running again a few weeks ago, and it's spent a week of that in the body shop. So we haven't had time to get the suspension lined out yet.

Also... this pull was supposed to be a "Stock Class" where no bars, blocks or hanging weight was allowed.

Hitch height was 25.5"... Thats as close as my adjustable hitch could get to 26"...

Thanks for the input!...

Awesome! This is kinda what I needed to hear...

I agree though... This thing ran like a pooch last night. I'm trying like hell to figure out why!

Also... Being an 05 I can't lockout O/D so my options are to run with the selector in "2" or "D"... I'm ordering the BD Overdrive Lockout today to remedy that situation.

Are you running low range????

My truck shifts from 1st to 2nd so fast you cant even hear it. You were 20-30 ft out before you hit second.

Yep... Low Range.

I believe the slow shift to second was because I came out of the hole so soft...

if you are willing to push it harder you could manually shift it and I would for sure get do whatever to make it turn more boost

I'm willing to push it as hard as I have too to be competitive, but this was all the truck wanted to give me last night.

I'm still thinkin' I need to adjust the wastegate for a little more boost as well...

I believe my trans won't lock up the converter on it's own till 3rd gear... Thats in High Range though.... I don't know WHAT the converter does in Low Range... Guess I'll go play with it on the street a bit today to see.

I know with the switch it WILL lock up in 1st.

I didn't think this was adjustable in the valve body... I thought it was electronically controlled by the ECM.

I agree on needing to come out of the hole harder... I don't know why I chose to leave so early last night.

I been thinking the same thing on the 4.10's.

Thanks for all the advice so far...

I guess what I'm lookin' for more than anything is possible reasons this thing is running like such a pooch... I really thought this thing should run better than this.

I mean it got spanked by a bunch of stock turbo trucks with nothing more than programmers and exhausts...

What are the thoughts on adjusting the gate for a bit more boost?

I knew you weren't the only one that wasn't running a stock charger. Everytime I checked the board it said stock charger. I should have hooked in that class I guess too.

I am however the only one who admitted it and took myself out of the money.

I just wanted to hook the truck..

I told them before hand that it wasn't legal for a stock turbo class.

Yep... You should have hooked in the class also....

Not saying you, but just funny that dedicated pullers drop down to pull in a stock turbo class that they cheat to try to win it.

Ohhh I agree completely!

It's absolute crap. This is the **** I deal with every time I try to hook the damn truck.

So not only do I have the fact that I can't get the stupid thing to run right, I've also gotta worry about all the cheatin' bastards.

I'm seriously wondering why I chose to get into sled pulling...

Try TM on 2 instead of 4 that is a lot of fuel down low.

Sorry... Musta missed this.

I was thinkin' the same thing... I thought I had too much fuel off the bottom and thats why it didn't wanna light the charger too well.

I'll give that a try at the next hook.

Do it to enjoy it. If not then why bother? That's how I see it and that's why I got into it

Well... I'll agree with that to an extent. I guess I'm just too competitive of a person. I'd like to at least THINK I have a chance at the front of the pack.

I see where your coming from and if I were you and had all those performance parts on my truck I would to bu all you can do is make changes accordingly until you get it figured out and I'm sure you will have no problem running at the top

I know hoddler pretty well! I dont think he was trying to cheat! Sounds more like the pull was very poorly organized! If your not smart enuff to see the bars or blocks on his maroon truck! Well then you shouldnt be teching.

Well is it the tech job to kick people out, or the pullers job to know what class your legal for or not? I mean come on I know what class my truck is legal for and which it isn't.
