I thought you guys might like this so here it is. I just bought a new 08 mega cab about a month ago and I needed a 5th wheel hitch for it to tow our camper to the coast. The truck came with a b&w gooseneck hitch already and I didn't want to drill any more holes in the bed to add rails for my current husky hitch or spend $900 on a b&w companion hitch, so my dad and I decided to build one! $125 later and this is the turn out! I still have to paint it BTW.

Yes it drops into where the gooseneck ball goes, then torques down on the latch pin.

Can you take some more pics of how you attached to the goose neck?
I need a 5th wheel hitch as well, but don't want additional holes in the bed either, or rails protruding for a hitch I'll use a few times a year.

Here ya go!

Thank you, it is actually 3/16". I based it after the b&w version which is also 3/16".
The square 3" tube is 1/4" though.

Ya, the only thing we did different was the sides. The b&w was at an angle which made its footprint its little wider.

Looks great!!! Excellent craftsmanship! Maybe you could build a few and sell them? I don't tow any fifth wheels but I get a lot of calls for people looking for them out of parts trucks.

If someone wanted one I wouldn't mind making them one! I have the material to build one more.
