Diesel power challenge 2013

i am gonna try for next year and be the first 2wd truck

only rule exception i want is a tire change for the either the drag race or sled pulling, i wouldn't even complain about pulling with the sled set up for 4wd's

i do think they need to have the trucks driven to the event and not trailered, the MPG test is great but it needs to be about twice as long

i think a diesel drag week kinda thing would also be awesome, see just how many trucks can handle a week of beating on them everyday

I also think that the trucks need to be driven not towed to the competition.

A buddy if mine here in Texas got a invite. Hope he goes!! His truck is stout after the motor build.

So you like the idea of driving a 1000+hp truck to a an event that half the events aren't in any other competition (Lots of strain on the trucks) and be 20+hrs away from from? Makes perfect sense. I mean I'm pretty sure I saw John Force drive his funny car into a race one time... :nail:

Agreed.

I plan on pushing mine pretty hard, I dout anything on the truck will last long.

driving a 1000+HP truck on the street isnt that bad, unless its a 12V and then its just more tuning for driveablilty. we did 1300 miles this summer in our caged duramax and got around 15mpg with a 14gal fuel cell. drove just fine

last i checked John Force didn't have licence plates on it either.

so your saying the low 8sec (couple high 7's) passes and 1400 miles the gassers did in street legal vehicles is worse than the DPC for diesel trucks? :pop:

being that its only drag racing, many weekend warriors would show up just to watch and/or run with some of the faster trucks. many of the cars are purpose built for "drag week" same as for the DPC.

Do they also hook up to a sled? What about drag race with twice their weight behind them? Since when did this become the Diesel Power Daily Driver Challenge?

August 2011 Diesel Power mag page 73 quote "Inside the 10 most powerful Daily-Driven trucks on Earth"

Um....Id have to say its been "daily driven" since at least 2011 DPC!!!

Paragraph 2 on page 73 "In the next 38 pages, you'll be exposed to 10 daily-driven diesel pickups......"

Now, IMO, I could care less if they get towed in.

The fuel ecconomy test is complete garbage, letting guys fill the tanks up till they spill out then only letting the pump click off on the refuel. Anyone with a Dodge knows how many times the pump clicks off before its actually full.

The trailer obstical course is retarded.....just shows who has the least concern of their trucks body from bombing out with a trailer attached.

I think they should hold this during an event like TS. Rope off an area that only the competitors and their crew can be inside. Let the crowd watch them trash to fix stuff. Hell, I say dont pick or annouce who has been picked untill the morning of the event! If they are picking trucks that havent even been built yet, thats pretty retarded if your gonna still call them daily driven everyday trucks.

I agree withg the whole "truck not built yet" thing.. Sounds like a popularity vote. I'd like to see a vote in, like the Top Truck Challenge in Four Wheel and Off Road magazine. They have several pre built multi purpose trucks that are voted in by the public. Then should have 1 vote per email address or a mail in. I could care less that the trucks are towed, however if they add more miles to the mpg test or add a couple minor rules like full stock interior or sumthin..

I have thought about this a lot.

I would do a 2wd crew cab long bed Ford or Chevy with a Cummins, a Road ranger double OD trans .62 final gear, F106 with a 6.20 ring gear, and 445/50R22.5 Super singles in the back. Same gearing as the NV4500, 4.10s, and 33" tires.

Now you have many gears to to choose from when pulling. And cheaper dual disk options... If a crazy Canuck can click off 12's in a semi with a couple gear changes, then so should a Cummins pickup.

I would be more then willing to drive it over. Yes I would have a trailer escort because I would be a little far from home if something broke. Mine gets driven to every pull and drag race I go to no questions askes. I don't have the funds to buy another truck and trailer to haul it with. Mine might not be 1000hp but I think it should be respectable for a budget built all purpose truck.

Except the road ranger shifts miserably slow

My name is Matt doyle and I got a 6.7 powerstroke getting built by spe diesel. I plan on driving the truck to the competition if I get picked know tow rig needed

Why not? Thats why it's called a challenge. Diesel Power wants it to be appealing to street driven type trucks. So give them a fair test. Larson does it every year. Believe he won again this year to.

So you want a group of middle pack trucks to compete for an overall but can't be driven on the street? Makes sense. So you watch a group of trucks that aren't the fastest in the nation, not the best pullers and don't make the most hp. So whats so fun about the event then? Sounds like a bunch of average trucks competing now. So whats the "challenge"? They can all sled pull, all drag race, all dyno but can they drive 500-1000 miles straight, only needing to fuel up?

I just seen this. I received the email. The emails much better than last year, when I found out by people calling me who already had the issue with trucks to vote for.
