Checked my oil level last night and when I did it showed oil about 2" above the "safe" mark. I checked the coolant level and it is low. The oil doesn't look milky or abnormal. Under normal driving conditions my coolant temps are fine. I DD the truck so it doesn't get romped on very hard.

Any ideas on what's going on or what to check for? I surely hope it's not my head gasket.

There is an oily residue inside the top of the radiator cap, but I'm not sure that when I bought this engine if the head gasket had blown once before.

Let it sit for while and pull the drain plug and see if coolant comes out. If yes, replace the oil cooler and then go from there if you still have issues.

You can have a repair shop test for compression in the water system, easy way to test for blown head gasket.

If you do have any coolant in your oil you do not want to drive it! It will wipe out rod bearings pretty fast.
