Factory step removal

Went to remove my factory steps the other day, felt like "nut" inside the frame was spinning. How exactly are the steps bolted on, i can't get my hand on the backside to feel what's going on. Plan is to do powersteps later after i lift it, but for now i want to go stepless, but would like the option to re-install them later if i change my mind. Anybody have a similar experience? Or am i just being a sissy and it will be fine if i keep going?

Yes, it's a flat rectangle nut in there! I slid a screw driver in the hole to wedge it until I got a few turns on the bolt, just enough to wiggle it out!

We're you able to get the nut out of the same hole?

Yes & if you screw the bolt completely then the nut will drop down & probably won't get it out. The hole should be oval!
