Floater 10.5 axle ends...

So for the race truck we decided to narrow the rear axle about 20 inches. But instead of putting 3" axle tubes in the back, I stayed at 3.5inches but went with 4130 chromoly tube. 4 times as strong and 30% lighter. So we turned down the other axle housings and got the floater ends out of them to swap over. Don't want to lose a wheel if an axle breaks...

Is 30% lighter from the 30% reduction in material? How do you weld 4130 to mild steel?

Chromoly is 30% lighter than mild steel. And you use ED-80s filler or you can use 310 or 312 SS filler.

Yeah. Instead of an Argon/CO2 mix we use bluetooth with EDR2 for shielding. Actually that weld is from where ford attaches the brake plate to the housing.
