whats your rate first off? well japan is different first of all. a cruiser is awesome though you lucked out, the crew helps do everything (unrep, mooring etc.) you will enjoy it. work hard and try to get qualified in everything esp. try to get your esws (enlisted surface warfare specialist pin) ship life will be different and somewhat hard to get used to though its a great way to get into good shape and save money, are you getting your truck sent to japan? try to get out into japan as much as possible its a really cool country. oh and they run red lights tehre all the time so be careful haha. other than that start out smart and save your money, try to put at least $50 away each pay check, sometines its hard esp. being an e1, i know ive been there and im about to commission. im not sure if you will get cola (cost of living allowance) unless your married of course. you should get overseas pay and sea duty pay. if you luck out and get to go to the med you will get hazardous duty pay (if your ship qualifies sometimes they dont). expect to become an expert at firefighter and damage control along with being good at shooting the m240 and 50 cal, if your a good swimmer (and i mean really good) try to go to SAR school and be a search and rescue swimmer on the ship, i did that and it was one of the best decisions i ever made, plus you get more money. if you are physically fit then try to join vbss (vessel board search and seizure team) other than that you will meet alot of cool people along with people you never want to see ever again. also do as your told and listen and learn as much as you can, dont suck dikk and stand up for yourself. also if your underage, dont get caught drinking oh and in japan if there is a group of hot girls walking down the street, the hottest one is most likely a guy...any more questions pm me

yeah a few of my friends are stationed there along with a few of my wifes gf's and they all have lots of stories of guys picking up these "girls" and how it all went down, most of the stories are about some drunk marine haha. luckily i have no gay friends (except for dboy11) and they all ran like hell but def. tread lightly when it comes to them.

well i thought i was leavin back to texas next weekbut guess not iv been put on hold until well i dont know until they say ok your goin or my orders are changed

my guess is your perm duty station orders will be changed...maybe you will luck out and get a ship headed for libya

I have a buddy who was on his way to Yakota AB, Japan...now he's stuck in San Francisco untill they decide who is and isn't going there.

I think you should drink beer and have as much fun as you can right now.
You're in limbo!!! Take advantage it doesn't happen much.

Thanks for making me free to enjoy a Saterday.

i wouldnt mind it tax free pay except fica i test out of school on tues and iv got the average for automatic e2 and a recomendation for third class that my next command will make the call on though it requires another year tacked on to my enlistment i wouldn mind it at all seeing that iv got 600 in bills a month that limits me to about 75 bucks a week for diesel and if i want to go out into town or do anything

600 a month jesus, you must have been busy before you joined huh. well it will motivate you to make rank

Last edited:
truck is 200 a month insurance is 250 and payin off some recent body work to it for an additional 175 yeah i was busy but you got to pay to play i guess

you navy guys make no sense lol.

I thought you meant ps as in: "ps: I love you" no homo

I don't think I will ever figure out your rank structure

our rank structure is the same as any other branch, starts with e1 etc etc. we just have acronyms for our rates, en=engineer, bm-boatswains mate etc. its easier to know what a persons job is.
