Thinking/looking at getting some HID's but Im not sure what the differences are Ive seen H1.H2.H3 etc
also 8000k.9000k,10000k,12000k etc
Whats what?
anyone have any insite on these.

The K number is the Kelvin. It isnt a standard but typically. 4300K is factory HID color 6000K is brilliant white as you go up it gets blue then White. I have 6000k Flashtech set and I really like them in my dodge. Search my threads for a ton of info posted in my install thread. "Installed my Flashtech HIDs last night"

From the sets I've owned, John....6000K is right at the point of turning blue.
I run 5000 right now and there's no blue at all. 4300 ends to lean towards the yellow end of the spectrum.
Anything above 6000 is blue leaning towards purple at 10,000 and above.

Check out www.retrosolutionsllc.com

Their's seem to work the best in the Ford housings.....they come very highly recomended.

Thanks UB, Thats what I was looking for. I want them a little blue but not violet/purple and definately brighter.

6000k is your color then.

Im kinda torn between 6000 and 8000 :bang
I wish I could see them side by side.Ive seen some but they have been different brands and some dont even shine evenly..

Here's my collection...All pictures show comparisons with non HID bulbs, all are Silverstars except for the car.

go 6000k, 8000k is too purple/blue! 6000k is real nice and white!

I like 5K over 6K....6K was a bit too blue for me.
If what I read is correct, John...the bulbs will change color over tine and develope more of a blue tint than when you buy them. IE...5K will be closer to 6K over time.

4300k doesnt have any yellow, as said in the 2nd post they are whats used for 90% of OEM applications. The 4300k gives you the most useable light (not that there is much of a diffrenece between 4300 and 5000) but ther are a white light with a slight hint of blue..here is a chart:

the bottom is 3000k
right above that is 4300k
6000k
8000k
10000k
12000k

i have 8k an they are pretty blue but bright as **** make sure you have your headlights adjusted i got brighted 6 times and had a guy infront of me pull over cause how bright they are

I like the look of the retro kit. Would there be any problem shining them through the stock lenses on my 99 Dodge? I'm thinking about somewhere around a 6000k for the headlights and I'd like to go with something more of a yellow tint for the fog lights. Any suggestions?

6k headlight, 3k foglight. Swap in sport headlights that are clear and have fun with all the light!
