How to word a box charger turbo rule

Long story short, I have lots of interest in my area from guys about building a 2wd diesel class. We are trying to keep this an inexpensive class as many guys are mad about how far out of control our local workstock and 2.5 classes have gotten so we are hoping to keep this a box charger class. The rest of the rules are fairly simple and straight forward. One ton rear end and drivetrain, single 35 inch DOT tire, rigid suspension allowed, common weight obviously once we can decide on one and all the safety stuff (loops, killswitch etc.) My question is how would you word a rule on box chargers? Goal is to limit it to an s300 frame with a t4 flange, either s363 or s366. No billet or aftermarket cast wheels. How should the MWE be worded? I haven't messed with a box charger in a long time so forgive me. Just trying to create a fun, somewhat budget minded class for people who don't want to dump boatloads of money into a vehicle.

Do some research and find a turbo or turbos that are similar in size and inexpensive to purchase. Allow only those part numbers to be used. Have the club buy one of each and make a protest fee the price of a new turbo. If someone is suspects cheating is going on have them put up the protest fee and purchase the new turbo in exchange for the supposedly illegal turbo. Pull the turbo apart in front of everyone and see if it was tampered with. If so kick out the offender and keep the new turbo. If not the suspect gets a new turbo and the person who put up the fee gets the used one.

I wish our 2.5 class would do something like this instead of just saying a box stock 2.5 turbo

I've wondered if only making one simple turbo rule would work.

Turbo buyout of $1000 cash from a competitor in the same class. Owner of truck must remove said turbo in x amount of time. (Adjust $ to your preference)

Signing you name at entry means you agree to these terms. Failure to comply means you forfeit winnings, are immediately escorted from the grounds, and banned for x number of pulls (where banning can be enforced).

We want to make it an s300 frame limit since they can be had for around 700ish dollars. I guess what I am trying to say is how do I word the rules on MWE and wheel mods, protrusion, etc. I was thinking something along these lines.

S300 is only model of turbo allowed
T4 flange is how it will bolt to manifold/manifolds
Must be stock cast 7 blade wheel. No billet or batmowheels allowed
No modifications whatsoever to compressor or turbine housings

Everybody shows up with a turbo. They all get put in a big box and then randomly redistributed among the competitors prior to pulling.

Fink was telling me about this class. Personally i would rather see an s400 frame as for durablity but then you run into the issue of the boat load of turbines and turbine housing options. you can buy box s400's in a similar price range as well.

That won't happen. The class would actually have to be tech'd. And then everyone in the organization would have to back up the tech on what was enforced. Good luck

How about rules read ,

Box s300 charger pn#xxxxx
Have bushings made for 2.5 inch that goes in the front of the charger
Hold trucks at end of track hoods closed till all have bushing checked by tech official
Any bushing tampering - dq

Then it doesn't matter if they go to great lengths to open up map and make billet wheels look cast

A bushing that is comparable to a 2.5 charger is going to need to be smaller than 2.5.

No , what about the map groove? But that was just a reference. I would bet you can't make more than 800hp with a 2.5 restrictor

I was thinking just figure out whatever an s363 or s366 measures from the factory and give them the .005 clearance because I know an s366 from the factory actually bushes bigger than 2.6

I'm really hoping the class takes off. I love the 2wd's and the response so far has been awesome. My neighbor has what is arguably the first ever super mod 2wd built and from helping run our points circuit last year the 2wd class was by far the easiest going, simple to tech, everybody got along great and they even traveled to the pulls together in most cases. Hopefully we can transition and bring this over to the diesel side.

I'd say just post part numbers no exceptions and don't do bushings what so ever.

As posted above list the parts numbers, a buy out rule is a nice idea but it does not work. Nobody wants to be "that" guy who makes a scene. The part number rule has worked with the local hot farm tractors.

Borg Warner PN#177275 and PN#177284, no alterations allowed, $100 protest fee. The rule is only good when enforced.

Both are 66mm compressor, just different compressor housing outlets.

In the interest of general information, how do they "seal" or "tag" a turbo so that its tamper proof? Some sort of tamper evident bolt for the covers I suppose?
