Injector Knock??

I cant tell if my truck has an injector knock or if its a rod knockin. i was told the previous owner who put the turbo on my 7.3 didnt put turbo injectors on it so im assuming they are stock 7.3 idi non turbo injectors. the knock is there almost all the time...when it warms up out side it tends to go away...some times the knock is there and sometimes its not. i dont know if a rod knock will come and go...but ive never had an injector knock before so i do not know if that will come and go either...i have noticed that it will occasionally miss...im new to the IDI so i have no clue whats going on. it still runs good and seems to have power. anybody got ideas? do they make performance injection pumps and injectors?

What's your timing at? If you put your finger on the lines can you feel one "knock" more than the rest? If you loosen the injector cap does said "knock" go away?

It is really annoying. especially because its there 95% of the time...i was gonna get some turbo injectors for it and see if that does anything for it. i hope to god it does cuz i dont have the funds right now to pull the motor and replace or rebuild at the moment. trying to buy a house soon. haha

Turbo specific injectors make zero difference. They are all rebuilds basically at this point. Finding a good quality matched set would quiet it down...if it is infact injector related. Any "popping" from intake or exhaust? I'd check timing first and put a hefty dose of ATF in the fuel filter, run it for a tad then let it sit overnight

no popping from the exhaust at all. its gonna suck if its a friggin rod knock. but how much atf would you put in it. i will have the timing cover off of it soon. i have a nice oil leak coming from the timing cover gasket.

it does have some blow by but the coolant is still green and it runs cool. so i dont have any coolant in my oil.

do you sometimes warm it up inside?

sorry, couldnt resist

Play with your timing, see if the "knock" changes. And see if loosening injector cap stops the noise from what ever cylinder you find by feeling lines

how do you adjust the timing on this? i know with a gas engine you play with the distributor...but im new to the diesel world so im not quite sure how do to it to a diesel.

So i havent messed with the timing yet, but on my way home the other night i hit a bump in the road....the knock stopped and my oil pressure went back up to the N in the normal range (it has always read on the lowest side of the normal range) and ran fine until i started it back up the next morning and the knock was back and my oil pressure was real low again.
