So me and the wife are looking for her a newer car. The new body style so 11 and up. We are expecting a baby in Jan. so im wondering if the passat is worth the extra money. We have drove both and like both, mainly trying figure out the differences besides extra room. The dealership told us that since the passat is bigger it has to run DEF fluid ( i would like to get around that if possible) and the jetta dosen't, eventhough they have the same engine and trans. I know there is alot on here about jettas but not passats, So if any of you have either (or know about either) I would like to hear some pro's and con's of both. Thanks

Were looking into doing thr same thing right now 2010 and up but staying jetta wagon. I have done a little research and only came up with a few things. Some had issues with the hpfp blowing up and taking injectors and all with it. And the a/c can suck. But I guess you only read about thd bad online.

I have no personal experience in either, ownership wise. However two good friends both have 12 pass. One is a manual and one is an auto, the manual seems to be doing better on milage by about 1.2, and is yet to have any issues. The auto has been to vw for a month and a half with a bad turbo. Said they were having trouble locating one. Both seem to ride and drive very well to me. Both are at about 20xxx miles, and do 40 plus on milage. I considered buying the wife one just like the manual but the clutch pedal and my 6.5 frame are in a constant battle for foot space. Even though shed be driving it everyday on trips id be in the seat 99% of the time. Im still up in the air as the turbo problem(im told is common) has me a little nervous about buying a used one. She drives and hour each way everyday to work and puts to many miles on to justify a new one imo.

My only experience is with the Jetta, love the car. It's a 2012 with 75K miles and not a single issue (been deleted since 13K). I get about 46-50MPG depending on conditions, weather, etc... I've been driving my brothers 13' F-350 gasser for the past two weeks while the car is in the body shop and it makes me realize how much I like that car.

That happened to School Bus.

I bought my wife a Passat about a week ago, She loves it and the 40+ mpg. I've only drove it a few times but it makes me want a 00-03 Jetta really bad now. Still has warranty so hopefully everything will be good with it. I heard they are expensive out of warranty, hopefully i wont have to find out. One thing a dealership told us is that since the passat's are bigger than the jettas' the passats have to run DEF and jettas' dont. Is there a tune to get rid of that? Does anybody tune Passats?

A buddy just bought a brand new 2014 Passat manual. I was very impressed with it, power wise, quiet, clutch and shifting was excellent. Back seat wasn't small either. He took it on a long trip across Nebraska and got 47 one way 49 on the way back running 80 mph. Paid $25500 at the dealer.

We purchased a 2014 passat with the dsg trans and love it. On our last road trip we got 44mpg. The only thing I didn't notice was we got the lower power rating.
