Truck has real loose steering. There is a lot of playing before it starts to actually starts turning. Is this hard to fix.

You need to change the steering linkage. $400.00 in parts and an alignment.
I just did mine in my 03. Got help from Doug at GoGo diesel. Not sure if this is your problem but when you run big tires they tend to go out sooner.
Could it be a steering box issue?

05'S HAD A STEERING RECALL ISSUE I BELIEVE..sorry for the caps

Will warranty cover this? I have about 1200 miles left on the bumper to bumper.

first....take it in for the steering oscillation TSB...covered under warranty.
I doubt this is your issue judging from your avitar as your truck doesnt look lifted......but i thought i would throw it out there just in case...
Lifted trucks wit aftermarket drop pitman arms have a lot of issues with the nut that holds the pitman arm to the gearbox loosening and causing steering issues.....its a 1 7/8 nut so it takes a big wrench to do it without pulling the gearbox...and the torque is pretty high (i dont remember off of the top of my head but i beleave over 200 ft/lbs...)
