I'm in the process of swapping out my cracked 53 block. Im picking up a bare block this weekend, and will be sending it straight to the machine shop.

My question is, what all should I tell the machinist to check?

What are the advantages/disadvantages to boring the block over say .10/.20? Truck is just a stock farm truck. Eventually plan on putting a small set of injectors and a turbo upgrade in the future.

For what it sounds like your plan is I wouldn't even bore it. Just make sure top of block is good and level, hone the cylinders. Won't see huge gains boring them in what your talking about. And boring a block requires larger pistons.

What exactly would the "potential" gains be if I was to bore it over? I doubt they would even be noticeable on a stock truck but just curious what the advantages are on boring

Oversize boring is only for repairing an out of spec bore or damaged cyl, not for power gains. Plus 20 or 40 wouldn't even barley be even measurable.
