For my one upcoming project I need a new car. (I have a pizza coffee and we will start to offer home delivery). So I need a good MPG car and something attractive for advertising.
And I bought 2004 Smart ForTwo Diesel. It have 40 hp MB Diesel(CR) engine and 6-speed semi automatic transmission.
I test drive it for few days, mostly in the city.
I got 73.5 mpg :evil
The top speed should be 87 mph( I got 81 mph)

70mpg sounds awesome, but my escort gets blown all over interstate on a windy day so I don't think I'm gonna be buying one of those LOL

As much hate as I have for something like this, that's pretty awesome. Drive careful though, you wouldn't want to get plowed by a tricycle.

A fellow I worked with has "hopped" up a diesel smart about as much as you could. It had an ECM reflash, van akan pressure box and the only MBRP exhaust for a smart car in existence. The car went pretty good after, but the turbo and clutch were never happy lol.

When those get cheap enough to buy for $500 or so, I will have a half acre of my property set up as a bumper car arena.

73mpg is pretty damn awesome.

where can said parts be found? wonder how it would work with the auto trans

I'm a fireman, we call those Coffin Cars, because if you get in a good wreck, might as well bury you in it.

But 70mpg is impressive.

It actually steers very well in the city and very surprisingly stable in the highway.
Anyway I will drive it in the local small city only. And I trying to avoid big cars. :badidea:

PS! PS! The German diesel tuning guys will push out about 100hp :evil about this engine.
Other injectors, twin turbo, new exhaust, some head work, gearbox/brake upgrade etc. Only problem is that all will cost twice more then I payd for the car(car was close to 3000.- $)
So for that money I better will build up my truck or fix my house.

70mpg is pretty cool but...with something that small if you curb it, it's totaled!

I will start counting the days when he will start tuning, new turbo or ecu tuning .....

I will not take too long LOL

I have no picture , but I can confirm his pizzas are one of the best

I think I'd have to respectfully decline on driving a Coffin Car. No thanks. Maybe when my kids are grown and they don't need me around anymore.

Sorry. Growing up in a wrecker with my father, I've learned to sacrifice mpg for something with a frame under it and a little bigger than that.

Well, since I driving only in the small city I think it's ok to drive this car.
The highway I think I do not want to drive it daily.

but....but .....but...they said !!!

70mpg is almost worth taking a chance in that death trap.....almost.
