We did a set of studs and gaskets on a buddies 05 and everything went smooth no big issues. We start cranking on it and it seems to take alot longer than usual so we pulled the icp and there was no oil in the rail at all. We cranked for a bit more to see if anything would come out and still nothing. We pull the valve covers an the vale train is dry with no oil. You can pull the stand pipe plug and get some oil out then hold your hand over the hole and it will fill the rail back to the icp hole. Put the plug back in and nothing. The oil filter housing is filling up but seems as if it's not going any further. Any input or ideas

more than likely just air and will take alot of cranking unless you damaged any of the stand pipes or injector seals, alot of times it will drain fully charged batteries before it starts

I replaced both stand pipes an both dummy plugs. I understand the high pressure side would take some times to bleed but the valvetrain side of it should oil quickly shouldn't it?

Chris when we built that 6.4 it took over an hour to get it primed back up.

they have a high volume low pressure oil pump and do not prime like a gas motor

The low pressure side of the motor primes very fast, its the high pressure side that takes time to push air out. Did you change the engine oil after cleaning the block deck? Did you replace the screen under the oil cooler?

Yes changed the oil and changed the screen about a month ago when we did the egr delete/oil cooler
