NV 4500 problem

On my way home just now 3rd gear started making noise, frequency increases with engine speed. Kinda a low rumble. Would it probably be ok to drive it say 20 miles down the freeway to my usual mechanic if i skip from 2nd to 4th? 3rd is the only gear making noise. This probably isn't exactly the correct place for this question, but there seems to be a lot of traffic here and I'm in a time crunch so I digress.

With what your describing, I wouldn't be scared to drive it 20 miles to be repaired.

Drove her to the shop. No problems. Getting a reman with upgraded output and cryoed shafts. Thanks VE.
