Nv4500 input replacment

slide the trans back, remove the retainer bolts and pop it out. Id wait to order parts until you get it out. Ive seen twisted up retainers and bad bearings from breaking them. I have a few used ones around here too.

Simply replacing the input shaft is easy. Most times the main shaft needs reshimmed as well as the counter shaft.

Okay thanks guys and I have the bigger one already the re shimming and making sure spacing is right is there a chart for it? Like what the tolerances should be the Chrysler data basie dosent tell me

Pure Diesel Power has the standard 1 3/8 shaft and a heat treated hardened chromoly shaft. Big price diff between the 2

You can buy a manual for the NV4500, which tells you everything. If you haven't had your 5th gear fixed or 3rd gear syncro replaced; it may be a good idea to rebuild it while you have it out. I got a kit on Ebay for ~$400 and it has been working great ever since. It is super easy to do also.

Here is a video to walk you through it.....
