ok guys pulled with a g56 last year and was running 4th gear with 37" tires coming off the line at 3500 rpms, this year I have my 12 v I am pulling with. 33" tires going to come off the line at 4000 rpms what gear should I use, I have an iron giant so not worried about that part, but 3rd or 4th, think I have the power for 4th gear mods are in sig

3.55 ? Doubt you've got enough for 4th unless its a loose track. 2nd high or lower gears for 4th low

not sure what gears but I bet 3.55's, ok I will more then likely do 3rd low of course, then see how it does there, then maybe try another gear, I know on a g56 2nd high is between 4 low and 5 low where is 2nd high on a 4500

-----------------------High Low
1 --------- 5.61 15.3
2 --------- 3.04 8.27
3 --------- 1.67 4.54
4 --------- 1.00 2.72
5 --------- 0.75 2.04

I've always pulled 3rd Low. Tried 2nd Hi once...the clutch didn't like it...luckily I was the first puller, dropped to last and 3rd low got another 15-20 feet. ;)

at least pull 2nd hi. i got a buddy w/ 370's and a 62 charger and 3.55's he usually pulls in fourth but try 2nd first.

3rd low is way too slow. Go with 2nd high, you should have more than enough power for 4th low. There really isn't much difference between 2nd hi, 4th low anyways.

just be be sure you guys count L as 1 gear, so 1,2,3,4, and 5 gear, instead of L,1,2,3,4.

ive been pulling in 3rd low with .355, going to try 4 low next round, i added some more goodies to the truck, but isnt it alot harder on the trans in high range.

thats what I was thinking, I would like to stick to low range if possiblw well looks like I will try 4th gear and see what happens if it aint going to hold the rpms then I guess I will let off before the 100' mark and re hook in 3rd low

4th low is to much gear with 3.55's, I'd run 2nd high with 3.55's, but yes the high side is harder on things. Personally I'd say run 3rd low make the truck bite hard, and sling it 5,000 plus. I don't remember off the top of my head exactly, but I believe 2nd high at 3,300 rpms is roughly the same mph as 4,800 rpms in 3rd low. That being said 3,300 rpms on a tight track you'll probably snuff it out, where as 4,800 rpms you'll spin out, plus it'll be easier on the clutch. Try 2nd high and see what rpms you maintain going down the track and then go from there.

The nv4500 2nd gear is twice as strong/big as 3rd gear. I blew 3rd gear out twice, 2nd gear is still stock. I also blew 4th out once, but I think it had something to do with metal getting in there. 2nd gear is by far the strongest of all.
